‘War,’ says the Mayor, ‘at last.’ Three armies march on New Prentisstown, each one intent on destroying the others. Todd and Viola are caught in the middle, with no chance of escape. As the battles commence, how can they hope to stop the fighting? How can there ever be peace when they’re so hopelessly outnumbered? And if war makes monsters of men, what terrible choices await? But then a third voice breaks into the battle, one bent on revenge….
The electrifying finale to the award-winning Chaos Walking trilogy, Monsters of Men is a heart-stopping novel about power, survival, and the devastating realities of war.

"Really impressive ending and great narration."
Again, the narration is fantastic by humphrey bower, he is the best I've come across for narration, each character immediately clear.
The best description I can come up with for this trilogy is suggest you imagine the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy combined with the tone of 'The Road'.
That description is intended as a compliment as I enjoyed both of those immensely. Heartily recommend this trilogy.
This narrator is excellent! He slips in and out of accents and voices confidently and seems to be immersed in the story he's telling.
The book itself was flagging a bit by the end. Too many moments when the baddie could kill the goodie or vice versa but the writer wants to spin it out for no plausible reason other than - apparently - to load in more tragedy, more cruelty and more impossible-dilemma-porn. The trilogy as a whole is very good and very original, even though it could use some shortening. Definitely recommended as a performance.
Bought all the books from this series and enjoyed them all, the characters are all well portrayed by the narrators.
Monsters of men is an amazing finale to the chaos walking trilogy. It's fast paced, exhilarating, fresh and adrenaline pumping. I loved it.
This is a fantastic climax to the three book story and was so well read that I'll be seeking more by both this author and voice actor.
"Prentiss for President"
The final part in a trilogy that got better and better throughout.
Bower's narration is fantastic, in particular his characterisation of Mayor Prentiss.
I have read the whole trilogy and they just got better; this book is beautifully written and performed through the voices of the three main characters. The narrator creates such distinction between every character and really brings the book to life. Absolutely gripping plot which allows you to fall in love with and relate to Todd, Viola and the rest of the characters. Undoub
Story was good. Characterisations of the reader were good and consistent, though why the Spackle sounded like a South African Indian escapes me.
The use of repetition wore very thin after not very long (eg 'and he smiles. And he smiles and smiles. And he smiles and smiles as if he'll...'). It's a good trick for promoting suspense if used sparingly, but at what seemed like every other line it felt more like padding to make the book long enough and in parts I was crying out for Todd to kill the wretched mayor and get it over wth! It might have been better to edit all three books and put them in 2 volumes, but it was still worth persevering to the end.
"Not just for the teens"
I have totally loved this Chaos Walking trilogy and am well past being a teenager. I mostly listened in the car or whilst out walking with the dog, who approves because we frequently added an extra miles to the walk so I didn't have to finish listening.
I thought the ending was really good but I was glad to have been out walking on a rainy day with a pocket full of tissues. It perhaps ended a bit abruptly and it would have been nice to have gone on for just a little longer but I am happy to imagine the happy ever after.
This wasn't my usual type of book but I am so glad I found them and would recommend this trilogy to anyone of any age.
"very long, it could be just as good shortend"
i did love this book, and fell asleep lisiting to it well in to the early hours,
the narator hit the spot with the voice of all the main players. well done :)
