In the majestic halls of a crystal palace lies a secret that could destroy an entire kingdom....
Bryn Aven refuses to give up on her dream of serving the kingdom she loves. It's a dream that brings her to a whole new realm...the glittering palace of the Skojare. The Skojare people need protection from the same brutal enemy that's been threatening the Kanin, and Bryn is there to help. Being half Skojare herself, it's also a chance for her to learn more about her lost heritage. Her boss Ridley Dresden is overseeing the mission, but as their undeniable attraction heats up, their relationship is about to reach a whole new level - one neither of them is prepared for.
As they delve deeper into the Skojare world, they begin to unravel a long-hidden secret. The dark truth about her own beloved Kanin kingdom is about to come to light, and it'll change her place in it forever...and threaten everyone she loves.

"I love this series of books."
This book had so many twists and turns I couldn't stop listening. I was so sad to see that the book did not last very long . I was so impressed with this book I bought the next in the series. This book was fantastic let's hope the next is even better.
I think this book is a little better than the first one but I also think these series of three books could have been joined in just one. I don't see why they separated them. Neither the first one or this one had an "end" . not even a cliffhanger, each of them finished as any of the other chapters did
"I liked it even more than the first one."
great performance. loved the story and the twists it took. can't wait to read the next one.
"Amanda Hocking does it again"
Who do you trust and who is your enemy? This is the second book in the Kanin serie and it pick's up right where the first left of. This one has lots of plots in it and you really have a hard time putting the book down because you just want to know what happens next. It's beautiful written and I just have to read the last now.
Great story. I saw/guessed some of the twists, but the ending was really good. Couldn't wait to start the next book.
"Mildly Entertaining - Somewhat Predictable"
The experience wouldn't be too bad if there was a different narrator. This poor girl can't keep her characters straight.
"Book 1 and Book 2 should have been one book"
See my review for Frostfire. This and Frostfire should have been one book. That being said, I enjoyed the Kanin Chronicles. I thought the characters and the troll world were interesting and worthy of my time. While I am not getting into too much detail about the story (there is plenty about that already written by others) I don't regret jumping into this series, but still have an unpleasant taste in my mouth for the marketing a single story into two separate books (a trend that I see many other authors and publishers taking).
This book doesn't deserve to be a stand alone book. I am not sure why she separated it into a second book: there is no character development, no real plot movement, and key moments/places, I use that phrase loosely, have no real impact or importance to the overall story. In fact, I am not really sure what the overall story or plot is really suppose to be about and why we are supposed to care. Basically, this book was filled with many, many, many disjointed pieces that are threaded together by a whiny character who never grows, never questions, and never seems empowered.
She did this with the first book too, and I originally thought it was an interesting first book development ploy, but the fact that she did it with the second book makes me realize that first one was a freak accident that happened to work.
The book is a testament to the narrator's voice acting/reading abilities, and I would definitely love to listen to another book read by her with a bit more substance to it.
"Glad I pushed through the first book"
I do love a good book and honestly...*said in a whisper* the first one was not very good. HOWEVER(!) the ending was interesting and moved well into an intriguing storyline for the next installment (which is the book I'm currently reviewing).
If you are like me and didn't like the first one much but want to know what happened next...then just READ IT! It's worth the time and is great for keeping you awake on long drives (if you're listening to it. Don't read books while you drive!)
If you liked the first book then great the second but be warned that's the language increases and you shouldn't let your children read it...for a few reason.
That being said, I'm interested to see how the next one goes and what becomes of the mess that's been made hahaha. Enjoy!
First book is slow to start but going on and into book 2 the narrator gets better and so does the story. Well worth the slow start
