The All Blacks are the world's most successful sporting outfit, undefeated in over 75% of their international matches over the last 100 years. What is the secret of their success? And what can we - as individuals, companies and teams - learn from them? The All Blacks are the world's most successful sporting outfit, undefeated in over 75% of their international matches over the last 100 years.
In other arenas, there have been commanding sides that swept all before them, like the West Indies cricket team of the 1980s with their fearsome battery of fast bowlers, or the Hungarian football team who introduced a sophisticated new passing game and famously thrashed England 7-1 in Budapest in 1954. But what makes the All-Blacks different is their supremacy for decade after decade - their sheer consistency, longevity and sustained dominance.
So, what is the secret of their success? And what can we - as individuals, companies and teams - learn from them? Whatever field we are in, how can we play like All Blacks? In Legacy, best-selling author James Kerr is embedded deep into the heart of the All Blacks' set-up to reveal 15 powerful and pragmatic lessons in leadership. Revealing proven secrets of sustained success, Legacy is a unique, inspiring handbook for leaders in all fields, and asks: How do you turn vision into action? How do you achieve world-class standards, day after day, week after week, year after year? How do you handle pressure, expectation and setbacks? How do you train to win at the highest level? What is your purpose? What will be your legacy?

good book but narrator could have been a kiwi who could pronounce maori. someone like an all black or even an actor. Temuera or taika comes to mind
This book is filled with amazing principles which can be used in every aspect of life, business and relationships. I coach schoolboy rugby and found it has helped me enormously, and as a result is has helped the players. I'd recommend this book to anyone.
Learning the culture of this team has helped me build my business team and refine the culture of the business. This book is amazing and a must read.
"Well constructed & researched 🙌💯👍"
💯 🏉💪🙏🙌💯 It encourages me to get the physical book in order have these insights @ my fingertips. Definitely a publication to learn from & apply in life.
"Excellent excellent excellent."
So many good anecdotes in this book. A most read for all. Highly recommend this book.
"the most trite "lessons""
A grabbag of all of the commonly used and well known clichés about sports performance. Many are culled from NFL American football and have nothing to do with rugby or the All blacks. I think the author just wanted to market his book to a NZ audience.
no, the reader is annoying
One of the worst audiobooks I have gotten from audible.
I have no idea why there are so many positive reviews.
"inspirational and concise"
Enough Rugby to excite a rugger, not enough to alienate others. Strong philosophy and application.
Brill for anyone wanting to change a culture or in learning and development must read
"Legacy - 15 Lessons in Leadership"
The booked is billed as "15 Lessons in Leadership". Its supports the concept of leadership down to the lowest level and to the individual as personal accountability; all are leaders and no real followers. This is concept in many generations. However, the reality of the narrative is more robust that just a leadership style. it is the idea of creating a work culture that encourages leaders to create leaders. Rather than rely on the personality of one strong person who will died or leave, it is the idea of creating a distinct institution that replicates itself through inculcation of its new, current, and past members on basic principles larger than money and winning. Every industry and walk of life as such organizations: The US Marines, US Military Academy, Apple, Green Bay Packers, FBI, etc. There are thousands if not millions of places to work, volunteer, or participate in. But, the best ones have created a culture of principles that mean more than the basic mission of the organization. People join the Marines not for the pay but to be Marines. People do not become clerics or work for non-profits for the pay but to serve. Many people go to college but do not go back for their college reunions like they do for the US Military academies. Thus, this book explores what makes the organizations great. In some ways, it is a replacement for the culture of a tribe or a religion that has disappear as societies move from spirituality and / or from the tribal / communal system to the impersonal life in the cities.
"By far one of the best books I've ever read/heard. This has truly left a lasting impression on me"
If you want to find a way to live life with a cause, this is your book. No matter your religion, faith, or background this book applies to all. I will read this to my future children some day for I hope it instills a great sense of guidance and virtue in them. Read this book.
great book for life , life in sport and life in his a must read
"This is a must read for EVERYBODY"
Fabulous book not just for leadership and teams but for life skills, love the philosophies shared by the amazing GAB's
"Great book on leadership"
A book on leadership using one of the greatest rugby teams in the world as the vehicle to teach lessons applicable to all aspects of life.
"Interesting book but......."
The concept of the book is great and there are clearly some useful thought provoking elements to the book. Enjoyable to listen to
The various attempts to imitate accents were irritating and the New Zealand accent was not great, more grating. Easy enough performer to listen to but it didn't need the poor accent interpretations at all
The factual errors in the book in the end were annoying. Everyone but the author knows the 2011 World Cup final score was 8 - 7 not 9 - 8. The All Blacks lost to France in the 1999 World Cup, not the 1997. Bryan Williams first played for the All Blacks in 1970 not 1976. The problem with these types of factual errors is that it is difficult to believe that everything else represented as fact attributed to other people may or may not be completely accurate
Brilliant narration, delves into your very being. You'll go forward a better person after this.
"Not just for sports fans"
Manages to summarise a number of excellent attitudes and principles to lead any organisation to outstanding achievements. Much to apply to my own sector.
"A highly addictive read."
The All Blacks are an awesome team, institution and legacy. This is a story about one of the greatest legacies in sport. It blends a historical, anthropological and business-orientated study of the New Zealand Rugby Union team in a succinct, energetic and compelling fashion. A must read for rugby fans, learning and development enthusiasts and leaders.
"Good mix of rugby anecdotes and leadership advice."
I listened to this as the book was recommended in a 'top reads' article for management and leadership advice. Being a rugby fan, it seemed like a great blend of content and advice.
The content is generally really good. The All-Black ethos and underlying Maori influence is sustained throughout and used as a launching point for wider leadership points. The book tries to maintain both perspectives and does so well, though some of the links seem a touch tenuous at points, the connections a little spurious. There are some great pieces of advice though.
The reading is very good, with intonation and characterisation. It perhaps lacks a little passion in places, but I was really entertained by the reading.
"Easy to get into. Interesting. Motivating."
I struggle sometimes with this kind of book while running to stay interested. Didn't happen here!
Go forward and listen to this. Lots of stimulating and thought provoking ideas.
I will listen to it again.
Really enjoyed this book. Easy to listen too and the narrator added a sense of realism.
"The best book on leadership and vision"
What and amazing book detailing the principles and strategies of the all Blacks as an organisation. You can see why they are world leaders on and off the pitch. A pleasure to listen to can't recommend it highly enough
Excellent book, and really inspiring. Surprised to hear about the damaging culture that was seen throughout the All Blacks, but was rectified by delving into the culture. Heritage is key to any organisation, as it's philosophy should he shaped by its traditions.
