It's now two years since the zombie apocalypse changed the world. Survival is precarious for Zach Gunderson and his friends. They are encountering zombies who are evolving into something more than mindless automatons, and the group dynamic is threatened by the revelation of a murderer in their midst. They handle each situation in their own special manner, but a seemingly innocent encounter with a group of Marines leads to disastrous consequences.

The story is gripping but takes on a familiar undertone. The story has a darkness which is not present in the other books.
The ending is disappointing it leaves too much up in the air. However it ensures that you want to follow up if a fourth book is forth coming.
"so exceptional "
I find myself rereading the series over and over. I really like to listen to a bit of it each day in addition to the other books I listen to for the first time. I extremely rarely re-read a book.
"True to reality! Not Fairytale! Not for weak hearted!!"
Trying not to spoil anything I'll just say this is another great installment from the world David Achord has brought us, what I loved the most is the realism the book brings to a world flipped on its ear, where man is eating man, mankind has slipped backwards pertaining to morales and humanity's DISGUISTING traits have bubbled to the surface!! If your disturbed by this story I ask you to sit back and ask yourself what you expect from people should life as we know it take a road such as this story portrays...? Think of the horrors mankind suffers upon on another in today's world then imagine the horrors man would be capable of with No Repercussions, no law, no Justice... If you want to read apocalyptic stories then don't expect Happy Endings because I doubt those would exist once society crumbles as they barely exist Now!! Buy The Ticket.. Take The Ride!!!
"Great addition to the series"
These books have become a favorite of mine in the genre. The characters are well thought out, even if Zach is a bit of a Mary Sue. The only thing that detracts from this book over others is that huge storyline are sometimes glossed over through the use of a diary notation rather than the author giving the exposition, so I felt cheated a bit, especially at the end, which I won't spoil, but it marks a massive shift in any future story line. The only other nit is that the author needs a few synonyms for chortle! That word is used so much I found it distracting. Overall all though I thought it was excellent.
"Imagine the most depressing book ever."
I listened in bemused dislike as the author, like an angry childish god, tore down all he had built in the worst way possible.
"No don't make me wait again"
Achord and Halstead never disappoint. The toughest part of listening to these books is having to wait for the next installment. From start to finish zfinity kept me glued to the radio. Many times I found myself looking for traffic or taking the long way home. Can't wait to hear what is next up for Z.
"I don't know how to feel!"
The entire series is great no spoilers but I'm so hurt over the ending of this book. I need a book 4 like right now. Other than that it was another wonderful installment.
"I hate you Achord"
Hope to Ashes
First of all, if I here "nodded" one more time, I'm going to scream.
Second of all, no teenager in the absolute history of the world ever used the word edify.
Third of all, even with the absurd notion that everyone in Tennessee talks like it's the 1840's and that a supposed teenager has an identic memory and has read every obscure book known to mankind, the story of the book overcomes these absurdities.
So, if you can get past the "I nodded" stuff and the superman like teenager skills, you'll find a very good zombie apocalypse story.
Great book! Ready for the next on!!!! More than ready to see what is going to happen!
"I have loved you Zac... but"
I have loved the story line in this series. But at times it seems somewhat aimed at teenagers. It certainly hasn't stopped me from enjoying the series and would happily listen to other work by David Achord or listen to any other title narrated by Graham Halstead.
The ending without giving anything away just topped the story off. I don't think it could have ended any better. But the strange thing is, if there was another in the series I would be among the first to buy it!
The narration is great, the speed is almost perfect. I sped this one up to 1.25 for most of the entire series. This fact makes it excellent value on a pay per hour type deal.
It was unusual encountering a zombie type book now days without some sort of spiritual element.
In summary, this series has entertained me for hours. Listening to Zac grow up, and the end was great and made me like it even more... but if another one in the series is produced I would probably buy it but would be thinking, 'please don't ruin this for me Mr Achord'
"I felt like I was there"
I liked the storyline though I think Zack seems to conveniently knows so much about everything. I still liked it and look forward to the next book.
What a waste of a great story line. It's like the author gave up on the plot, Zack had everything and then it was all taken and he gave up.... It's like this was the alternate ending that was accidentally put forward as the finished work... Wasted my credits.
"Couldn't stop listening, so absorbing and captivating."
This series is right up there along with the Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and Mark Tuffo's Zombie Fallout series. Well Done David Achord, thank you for imagining and writing all this.
"In a different League"
From the start of this book you are gripped and dont want to stop listening
The humour at the the same time as the serious story line. Andy's one liner's are great.
The emotions he passes over bring you into the story and make you feel you are part of it.
survival just got "Zach'd"
Its the 1st Zombie series I listen to and I couldn't put it down. I listened to in one go :(
and I have to buy the next book on this series :(
"Another great book..."
Another great instalment in the Zombie Rules series. Enjoyed this book immensely. The performance was great and suited the book.
But! Not as good as the first 2, too short, should be more too it
"If thats the end what a crap ending,"
I loved every bit of it but the end was quick and crap , I hope there is a another book coming soon
"Good but not as good as the previous."
This was okay compared to the previous novels. It seemed a little rushed to get to the ending and left a far too wide gap at its end. I love a cliffhanger but it's more like a precipice and not in a good way. Overall enjoyable and if you've listened to the others worth finding out what Zach has gotten up to but could have been better.
