Welcome to the Kingdom of Hades, where even its prodigal princess sleeps lightly.
After fighting Soul Stealers in Detroit, Khara hoped to return home to find answers in her father's realm. But the land of the dead offers little information, and far too much tragedy. Now cut off from her brothers, and left only with her dark and unreliable companion Oz, Khara must navigate the centuries-old webs of deceit and betrayal, all while eluding the Underworld's most depraved inhabitant. But she soon finds an unexpected ally in her adopted sister Persephone. Together, they endeavor to right a terrible wrong. And as Khara soon discovers, there's more riding on her success than she ever thought possible.

While worthy of the price for the amount of time it takes to listen, there are several minor continuation errors, let's just say the main male character have the ability to conjure magically wall on the middle open areas so he can force the main character against it.
And can also erase the memory of every one so he can keep what he just boosted out loud a secret.
"It's pretty vapid"
Not a super great story, but not terrible. I thought the premise was interesting, but there wasn't much in backstory in the first book. I listened to it mostly as filler.
Both Unborn and Unseen are gripping, intriguing, can't put down stories. I want so bad to hear the next part of the story.
I'm drawn to Oz because I just can't give up hope that he can be redeemed though I love Kiersan too. He's the perfect big brother.
This book was a great Read . I can not wait for the next one.
""Black Obsidian Wings" Yum!"
Well, this is a series, as the author stretches it out and makes the story a To Be Continued. It would work as the dialogue is highly polished with a vail of the Ye Ole Spin on it. There are many paranormal series out there, and a better editor could have made some suggestions to make book 1 & 2 be related and have enough intrigue to prompt you to buy book 2. These 2 books are too closely tied together and you can't read 1 without the other.
Since I am a big fan of the reader, these 2 books gave me lots of yummy male men to enjoy. The price was under $10, so I use the Carolyn $10 rule, of buying it out right. I never use a credit unless, the book is in the $20 range.
This author needs more plot if she is to keep it a paranormal mystery
Note: listen on the new 1.25x speed to get the action pack drama author intended.
Ms Dawe is among my top favorite readers. Here male voices are yummy. See Julie Garwood's Sweet Talk, Nora Roberts The MacGregor series, and the Tiffany Snow series
Well, yes it needs book 3 or more, but finish the tale in book 3 already!
Audible, if you are going to add more books from this author, please keep Ms Dawe as the reader, or don't even bother to bring them in. She was the only reason these 2 stories had merit for the listening time.
"I liked the first better . . . sorry?"
Not very exiting or entertaining, and generally a poor second book, sorry for the bad review but meh.
"Forced drama makes for boring read"
I skipped more than half the chapters and missed absolutely nothing. The first book, although somewhat irritating, at least was interesting. I read it all the way through. This one was just unbearable to sit through. Of course her unabated physical attraction to jerk wads didn't help either. I think books like this are why so many girls are attracted to losers. Jerks are so often paired with the heroine girls believe that's what you should look for in a guy.
If I didn't skip chapters my eyes would've sprained from all the rolling they did every time I heard "New Girl". I will say that the narrator did capture sullen teenage whine but since that's the entire book, it got old fast. (Both guys and girls are that way, no matter their station.) How is being a sullen jerk attractive? Sorry, can't sell me on it. I've also lost my curiosity with the entire story line when it was so blatantly obvious who the backstabber was as soon as they were introduced. And despite all the boulder sized clues, no one saw it coming from a mile away? Please. Don't be like me and waste your credit on this one.
Need more in this series. Really good story line. Oz and Khara need to get themselves sorted out. Poor hades.
"blah blah blah"
I rather liked "unborn"- first in the series, so I expected that the second would be worth the bother. The heroine in first was rather incapable and for somebody who lived for centuries rather... oh well, I was thinking that since she was kept in isolation in a way, that explains her actions and her overly obvious pride and belief in her worth being above others. In this second instalment she just went demented. She doesn't think, even though keeps on thinking herself smart, she barks at everybody about her for no reason whatsoever other than feeling that she has right to boss everybody around. I was hoping for some development of her into a more grown up as she could have widen her horizons, but instead was dragged through first half of the book nothingness of her walking here and there, evaluating her "feelings", being nasty to everybody who said "no" to her. I have no idea what this one is about. She behaves like 3 year old. BAD. I nearly finished it. Nearly. Just can not take the last hour.
Will re-listen to Seanan McGuire's October Daye series to improve my mood.
To differentiate the character yes, but while in first book I found her belligerent tone fitting, I am afraid that by book two it only made me want to strangle the lead. It fits with the character alas, but made me want to kill Khara. I think she is supposed to be heroine and I am supposed to cheer her on or something, but I just want somebody to kill her.
I might not be the right person for this book. Too much nothingness. If you are a philosophical teenager you might like this self-righteous heroine who is rather incapable, hence my two stars for overall. Every story can find a fan. I hope.
