Story
You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

So much better than I expected

Publisher's Summary
Sequel to the extraordinary The Name of The Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear is the second instalment of this superb fantasy trilogy from Patrick Rothfuss.
This is the most exciting fantasy series since George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, and a must for all fans of HBO's Game of Thrones. Picking up the tale of Kvothe Kingkiller once again, we follow him into exile, into political intrigue, courtship, adventure, love and magic... and further along the path that has turned Kvothe, the mightiest magician of his age, a legend in his own time, into Kote, the unassuming pub landlord. Packed with as much magic, adventure and home-grown drama as The Name of the Wind, this is a sequel in every way the equal to its predecessor and a must for all fantasy fans.
Engaging and gripping, The Wise Man’s Fear is the biggest and the best new fantasy novel out there.

Trilogy...
Never have I feared a third book so much. In most cases I have hotly awaited to read what would happens next but with the Kingkiller Chronicles I do not want it to end.
I am so invested in these well written characters it feels like I will miss them if this all ends with a third book.
I just sit here hanging onto a quote from Rothfuss stating that the third book will end this arc, implying to me that there is more to come after these 3 days.
Here's hoping.
This series is a must read for anyone.

performance makes story exciting
While I enjoyed the narration of the story, I was left at the end of the book feeling disenchanted by the whole story. I find the main character to be somewhat frustrating and the whole Denna storyline to be a little manic pixie dream girl in a way. The main core of the story is interesting, just some parts go on for way too long that don't seem entirely necessary.
