My mind is like the willow; it flexes and springs. My heart is a knot of oak. Let them try to wound me. Let them try.
One year after artist Tilda Forwells loses her husband, she is finally ready to move into the secluded Welsh cottage they were meant to be sharing together.
In the valley below her mountain home is a mystical lake which inspires a strange energy in her. She starts to experience potent dreams, visions, presentiments - which all lead her to Seren, the witch and shaman who, legend has it, lived on this lakeshore in Celtic times.
As Tilda explores the lake's powers and her own, her connection to Seren grows stronger. And when she comes under grave threat, she must rely on Seren and this ancient magic to save her.

"Gritty & addictive"
Another excellent story by Paula Brackstone, this one is a little more gritty & the story keeps you enthralled to the very end
"Strange and interesting"
I prefer to read rather than listen to books however I do enjoy listening just before sleep. This book was a good listen albeit strange. Very descriptive creating pictures in ones mind. Good story. Very easy on the ears.
"the silver witch"
The silver witch was a very good audiobook it was one of those books you can't put down.
"A Young Adult book?"
This is not a sophisticated story though romantically charming. There are a few plot holes that stand out and if you have any knowledge of archaeology, please don't bother with this. At the end there are actions taken by the heroine that made me cringe big-time. It gave me the horrors when I heard what she did. I won't say more or it might spoil the story but as I said, there are archologically awful doings! It feels as if the ending is a bit too neat and you can see the convenient "and they lived happily ever after" coming way ahead. The narrator does a good job especially with the Welsh accent/pronunciations, but her style became somewhat irritating about halfway through. Nonetheless it's a nice little story. Recommended for young adults and those who want an easy listen.
super book, different to my usual choice. once the initial chapters had passed ( chopping from past to present) and the story began to unfold i was hooked.
"A surprisingly good listen - almost....."
Although this genre is not one I'm really into, this was a surprisingly good book. The first I have listened to by this author.
The characters were easily recognisable and likeable and the switch between centuries was well handled and easy to keep up with.
However, one real issue I had, which almost spoiled this listen for me completely, was the narrator. This lady has the annoying habit of putting an upward inflection at the end of sentences where they shouldn't be and it was really off-putting for me.
So much so that even though I would enjoy listening to this author again, I definitively would not if the narrator was the same.
"beautiful magical story"
I love all things magical, and this story is beautiful from start to finish, read stunningly, the characters kept me company on my morning walks and made tidying my daughters room easy xxx
"Wonderful story, wonderful acting"
This is a book I come back to again and again, it never tired and it never fails to move me emotionally. Melissa's acting and beautiful voice bring the story alive. Fantastic
"Makes me home sick for Wales"
The all series is enjoyable and bewitching.
The personages are strong and moving.
Can't wait for the next book. I can't get enough of those well written and engulfing stories.
Thank you and please please give us more books to enjoy.
"Good storyline,spoilt by poor narration."
loved the storyline but felt I was listening to a children's storyteller all wrong for this book. Worth trying to get past that if you can.
