Young Rhea is a miller's daughter of low birth, so she is understandably surprised when a mysterious nobleman, Lord Crevan, shows up on her doorstep and proposes marriage. Since commoners don't turn down lords - no matter how sinister they may seem - Rhea is forced to agree to the engagement.
Lord Crevan demands that Rhea visit his remote manor before their wedding. Upon arrival, she discovers that not only was her betrothed married six times before, but his previous wives are all imprisoned in his enchanted castle. Determined not to share their same fate, Rhea asserts her desire for freedom. In answer, Lord Crevan gives Rhea a series of magical tasks to complete, with the threat "Come back before dawn, or else I'll marry you."
With time running out and each task more dangerous and bizarre than the last, Rhea must use her resourcefulness, compassion, and bravery to rally the other wives and defeat the sorcerer before he binds her to him forever.

This was listed under the horror genre, it's not at all horror. It's more akin to Alice in Wonderland or Lemony Snickets, and definitely geared toward the young adult audience. Though it wasn't what I was in the mood for, I still really enjoyed it.
The narration was so good! A really fun story. I began reading the story from my Kindle but partially through changed to listen on audible. The story transformed. The narrator really brought it to life. I highly recommend.
it is suited for teens and young adults who enjoy a good story about a girl who manages to triumph over some pretty confusing and scary circumstances.
"SHE BELIEVED THE HEDGE HOG"
SHE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT BEING 15
I greatly enjoyed this book, but understand that it is not for everyone. I am a big fan of fairy tales and that is what this is, including: Witches, Sorcerers, Glacier Monsters, Demons, Gremlins, Rat Speakers, Man Eating Whippoorwills, Bird Golems, Conjure Wife and a Clock Wife. Skim the top and you may think it cute, but down deep it can be disturbing. Their is plenty of humor, not LOL, but chuckle with an occasional laugh. Down deep it may have more in common with Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns.
TIME IS A LARGE COUNTRY
I thought the writer was clever and very entertaining. Narrator does an excellent job.
I WOULD FOLLOW THIS HEDGEHOG INTO THE MOUTH OF HELL.
"Ursula Vernon is a national treasure."
Delightful story, skillfully read. Convince your friends and family to buy T Kingfisher books. Hopefully we can encourage her to write more.
"Good but creepier than I thought it would be"
Really great story. Not very predictable. The main character was strong but naive. I will look for more by this author.
Made me laugh often! I enjoyed Rhea's sense of humor and her logic. Worth reading!
"Meh, just okay"
Story line was a bit off- weird story in general. Reader's voice sounded like a child's.
"Great YA novel with a few twists."
Little slow to get off the ground, but worth making it through to the end!
The narrator did a great job of differentiating the characters.
"I wanted so much more"
I don't read novels as much as I read non fiction, but I do it, just to relax. There was some good stuff to the story, but it left me wanting more. It finished abruptly and I was as a result, a bit disappointed, so no I would not be likely to recommend that book to a friend, sorry
