Publisher's Summary

Sir Richard Francis Burton's expedition has returned from the future, bringing with it knowledge of technologies that must remain secret if history is to proceed as it should. However, when one of his colleagues turns rogue, the secret falls into the hands of the very people most likely to misuse it.

Betrayed, Burton and Swinburne watch in horror as the empire's elite employ the technology to secure their positions of privilege. When London's parks are transformed into concentration camps, artists and philosophers are declared enemies of the state, and propaganda proliferates, the king's agent finds himself on the wrong side of - the king!

Can Burton and his band of hunted revolutionaries overthrow an apparently indestructible and immortal autocrat...and if so, at what personal cost?

The Spring Heeled Jack saga reaches its explosive conclusion!

    "They're like Pokemon. Victorian Pokemon."

I'll be perfectly honest, here. If Mr Hodder comes out with another dozen books in this series, I'll be buying them all.

His writing style is unlike any others I've read/heard. Which is neither a good, or negative judgement. It's just...different. While I'd be inclined to say it's refreshing, much of the prose is couched in a linguistic form used in Victorian England, so it comes off as a little stuffy and antiquated. It's the content, and situational awareness/reactions/thoughts of the characters that breathe life into the narrative of the story. I suppose what I'm saying is that while it may seem to be a bit dry on your first go into his detailed universe(s), there's an amazing story woven throughout, with characters that have actual depth.

It'd take no small amount of intelligence and creativity to write these novels, and Mr. Hodder has them in spades. A great effort, and I can't wait to see the next in this series.

This a a great book to finish the series. If you have not done the first book read them all. Great book.

"Burton and Swinburne do it again"

The (probable) final chapter in the series is dark and brutal...but one of the best. I loved it and an very satisfied with the epic conclusion!

"great conclusion to a brilliant series"

it has taken me some time to approach this story as I knew this was the last one, but I'm glad I finally did.

it was a very enjoyable adventure with a beautifully written conclusion allowing the series to come to a satisfactory end, while giving the hope of future stories in the same universe.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do now that I'm done although I will be looking into the lives of these people in our own time line.

"A brilliant ending and so much more."

This was the sixth and final book. As the last third of the three-parter that was books 4-6 I may have enjoyed the second half of this series even more than the first.

Narration was as excellent as ever.

"Not as good as the other books in the series"

Read it if you want to finish the series, but it's muddled mess of fairly dull plot and, for me, uninteresting philosophy.
