Book One in The Perseid Collapse Series.
Alex Fletcher is back, in the epic post-apocalyptic sequel to The Jakarta Pandemic.
2019. Six years after the Jakarta Pandemic “decimated” the world's population; life is back to normal for the Fletchers and most Americans. The United States stands at the brink of a complete domestic and international resurgence, with stories of confidence and prosperity dominating the headlines. Appearances can be deceiving.
An undercurrent of paranoia and fear still runs strong below the surface; the collective angst spawned by 28 million American deaths forever stamped into population's psyche. Suppressed memories of helplessness and desperation, anger and jealousy - all of it lurks in the shadows, waiting to be released.
On August 19, 2019, an inconceivable “event” will unleash a darkness over the United States. A human darkness with a vast appetite for chaos and violence.
Alex Fletcher will wake to this new world, thrown headfirst into an impossible journey. His skills and preparations will be put to the ultimate test, in a brutally hostile landscape, where the forged bonds of friendship and family remain the only true constant.

"DON'T BUY THIS BOOK YET...Wait for the 2nd part.."
This book literally stops in the middle. Don't get me wrong, IT IS GREAT...BUT it will have no ending til book two is released..
"Konkoly is a great addition to the genre"
I really enjoyed Jakarta Pandemic, so jumped on this audio book as soon as it came out. I'm glad he's continuing the story of the same family.
Good pacing, solid writing, interesting scenarios. The writing is straightforward, and perhaps a little too much, but it gets the job done.
Agree with so many other reviewers---the cliffhanger ending really catches you up! Ouch! Can't wait to hear more of the story.
"GREAT Beginning but no middle or ending!!!"
What ever happened to THE NOVEL where you had a beginning ,middle and end? I can't believe that it was allowed to be produced as an entire book.I feel very cheated and definitely not worth the money.
However I do love the story line but will think twice about spending so much money for a third of a book next time.
"A REGULAR SH@T SHOW"
Before buying I read the reviews on page one. Everyone was upset about the book having a cliff hanger, so I thought I will be prepared for that. I never made it to the end, had no desire to. Digging deeper into the reviews, where the Jakarta fans regulated the honest reviews by going unhelpful, I have discovered what a prepper is. There is no story here. Some have complained about taking a whole book to get to Boston. It is easy to see early on why. The father in the story is the expert on everything. He tells everyone what, how and when to do things. For example he tells his son, take the knife out of the outer left pocket and ... I believe we were also told where he bought the knife, it's shape and size, and what it is used for.
In the beginning they are in a sailboat and we are told everything about this boat. I thought, alright the author is showing off his knowledge on sailboats, when they get to land, surely it will improve. If anything it got worse. Every step is explained, literally every foot step.
I am not a fan of the narrator, but I am not sure he really had anything to work with.
Wait till the 2nd book comes out, the first is high speed entertainment that ends to soon and leaves you facing an agonizing wait for the next book
"Book 2 please!"
The Perseid Collapse is the start to a great post-apocalyptic series. We join the fletcher family (and friends) a couple of years after the Jakarta Pandemic (if you haven’t read the book before this one it’s OK it’s helpful to get some background on who people are but certainly isn’t needed to enjoy this book) has passed and now are faced with a new issue (more on that a bit later). The book does a great job of mixing a bit of humor, lots of action and character development. The action scenes do a good job of keeping you on edge while keeping the action moving. There were a couple of nights where I had to pry myself away to go to bed. There are a couple of parts where the author goes into a bit too much detail of locations street names etc, but it’s nothing that takes away from the story nor does it go on too long to make any part boring.
Now for the issue that I have with the book, it resolves NOTHING!!! I’m sitting here wondering what happened to the kids? What’s up with Kate? I don’t even know for sure what caused all this. AHHHHH I have a problem with books that are part of a series that don’t stand on their own and leave you in a cliff hanger. The first book in the Author’s Black Flagged series is a perfect example of what I’m looking for, a book which resolves the issues and stands alone but allows for more to go on. This might be more of a personal preference but it drives me nuts. Either way I’ll be on the prowl for the next book when it comes out. I may complain a bit much about the cliff hanger but I really did enjoy this book and highly recommend it. Mr. Konkoly hurry up with number 2 please!!!
I listened to both this book and book #2 in this series. This series has too much military jargon and not enough plot development. I really tried to like this book, but it's not very good.
It started off well and then just got bogged down into the typical Prepper routine. Boring ...
Reads like a Prepper Textbook with some plot thrown in. There are many better "end of the world as we know it" books out there!!
"If you liked Jakarta Pandemic, get this series."
By starting a "new" series with "The Perseid Collapse" Steven Konkoly didn't even try to "up sell" you on this book.
If you listened to the Jakarta Pandemic this series ties in quite well, however, if you didn't listen to JP, then you don't feel like you missed the start of the series.
I'm now waiting for Book 3 :)
"Good for its type "
I enjoyed the differing scenarios.
Good storyline, too many characters towards the end, but closes with a cliff hanger.
Got to get book 2 now!
