The End was just the beginning of the new world…
Only six weeks have passed since a super-EMP attack devastated the United States, but already, life has changed dramatically. Most of America has become a wasteland filled with starving bands of people, mobs and gangs. Millions are dead and millions more are suffering, with no end in sight.
For Gordon, Samantha, Sebastian, Cruz, and Barone, the turmoil and chaos they dealt with in the early weeks after the attack will seem trivial in comparison to the collapse of society that plays out before their eyes. Uncertainty abounds as they all travel different paths in search of a safe place to call home. The only thing that is definite is that The Long Road will take its toll on all of them.

"Too many Cliches!"
I cannot understand how this book gets a good review from anybody - one bad cliche after another, poor writing, no, terrible writing. Good narration. Sentence after sentence that does not logically follow the one before it. No character development at all. The head of the the drug cartel is described as "deciding he would not be poor, and soon he became the go to guy for people to get anything they want" done - total character development. I tried to like this book because I like the genre, impossible, it is a bad book and nothing redeems it.
Not recommended, not one second of it.
"Listen to a speed reader?"
I don't know what they were thinking. It was like listening to a speed reader. I couldn't listen to the whole book. Can't believe I paid for this one too.
Toby Leonard Moore
Its unbelievable to think how quickly our friends and neighbors would become barbarians. Let's all hope we dont have to find out.
"I am glad I waited it out! Not to be disappointed!"
A great story leading into another story. I love this series.
The narrator started off reading this book really fast. Just as I was irritated and almost put it down the problem was fixed and it became the enjoyable read just I was hoping for, as the first book.
Story made me laugh and cry as I grew attached to the characters
I couldnt wait for the next book! Was not disappointed by this book at all. I am glad that the initial issue of the narrator reading too fast was fixed. I recommend this book and the entire series!
"The top of my list"
For those who enjoy a vivid apocalyptic survival based journey you will not be disappointed, but CAUTION - YOU WILL EXPERIENCE A LOSS OF SLEEP. This story, books one and two, my fellow end of times story seekers, took me on a vividly written and narrated journey that started when I hit the play button and ended when the nice man from Audible thank me for my purchase. To the person who masterfully describe ever evolving happiness, sadness, hopefulness, disparity, anger, and compassion thank you and very nicely done you incredible word putter together-er!
I can't, too many to list.
All around good job.
Book two, father faces the unthinkable.
Please hurry with book 3!
There was 1 incredibly annoying part that just about ruined the book, I only hope book 3 justifies it. If not, then this would be the first time i ever read a book with such rich opportunities be ruined by the actions in 1 paragraph.
"The hunt for a new home."
The story continues with Gordon, wife Samantha and two children Hunter and Hailey preparing to leave San Diego for hopefully safer digs in Idaho. Meanwhile Barone and crew leave the undesirables on the San Diego shore, after rescuing what family members they could find, and steam towards Oregon and a new home. Meanwhile back at Cheyenne Mountain, President Connor is suspected dead, Vice-President Cruz debates what to do with stockpiled supplies. The government’s plan is to save and reconstruct the government rather than the surviving population; in other words themselves. This was their vision to restore the United States; government first, then attend to what civilians are left. During a recon mission Gordon and son Hunter are captured by a group of religious zealots led by Rehab. Samantha and Nelson continue to search for Gordon and Hunter. What will be the outcome? Sebastian, Gordon’s son, after being left in San Diego hunts for his family. Unfortunately for Sebastian he is detained by a community of Mormons led by Bishop Sorenson. The Mormons are preparing to leave for Zion. How will this turn out for Sebastian? You’ll have to find out for yourself.
"Second listening and still enjoy"
This is a great story, engaging and detailed. A great series to get into with excellent narration
I could not finish listening to this book, too much boring dialog with too much, "blah, blah blah, he said, "okay," she said. "Will do," he said. "Just get on with it!" I said.
"great story line"
Excellent story believable plot and not over the top in Gore and Rambo type action.very evenly paced and detailed when needed, I am enjoying the series and would highly recommend you give it a shot.I think you'll really enjoy this story.
The delivery of the story is very much in the style of someone reading the book themselves, With no thought to spacing or change in tone between characters.
