The story sucked me right in. I liked learning about Eve's struggle with using magic. But there were some parts of the book that felt slow and monotonous, due to the slow narration. I can see how the narrator's voice was used to give the story a darker feel, but it was too slow, monotone, and unfeeling. I think I would have enjoyed reading the book, instead of listening to it.

"I just purchased the second book in the Series!"
This Book was such a great story. This story has just the right balance of humans, witches and vampires. I have just purchased the Kindle versions of The Devil's Angel (book 2) and The Devil's Soldier (book 3). I am so happy that there are 2 more books after this one. I enjoyed the characters, the plot, the sub-plots and the last line in the book. Wow!
Eve has been raised by 2 Witch parents that enjoy inflicting torture and play mental games with their daughter. They are trying to get Eve to use her powers. She won't because she NEVER wants to be like her father and mother (who could blame her - they were abusive and evil). She comes from a totally awful secluded life into a bright new world enabled by her vampire friend Boaz.
Eve is a powerful witch that has tried to hide her talents from her parents. Boaz helps bring out her gifts. With the help of her friends, Eve becomes a very dark and dangerous killer. While on a killing spree, she meets a vampire named Lucien. Her dark evil heart is confused by the light she once felt when she touches his hand. Lucien is a dark violent vampire with a mission. His gift is reading people. Eve is given a vision that shows she still has some bright spark in her soul.
There is a major development at this point in the book. I am not going to make this a spoiler, but Eve meets a man named Charlie that is a member of a secret society that keeps a balance between good and evil. This changes her life. I highly recommend this book to any paranormal fantasy fan. There is a tiny bit of romance in this book that does not distract from the action.
The narrator is good and I love her Charlie voice. Nice Sexy english accent. I forgot it was a woman narrator, she is that good.

"Equal parts captivating as it was frustrating."
This book was equal parts gripping as it was so frustrating. The book centers on Eve. Her parents are the worst of the worst and want Eve to follow in their footsteps. She has vowed to never use her powers and never turn out like them but then she meets Boaz. He turns her life on it's axis and she becomes that which she despised. Can she see the light before it's too late?
The start of the book was kind of hard to slog through. It was hard to like Eve and believe that she could be so naive and stupid, that I almost put it aside, but I kept going because I wanted to see if she would wake up and smell the roses!!! That for me was the most frustrating thing about this book. Eve was so gullible and fell for everything Boaz did and said. It was hard to believe that Eve would break her vow so utterly and completely and not see what was glaringly obvious to me.
Thankfully, she eventually realised what was what and the book picked up, and from then on I was hooked. I had to keep listening to see what happened and what would happen to certain characters. I feel like the book is almost 2 separate entities because part one was so frustrating and boring and part two picked up a bit and added a little extra something, though Eve still annoyed me at times.
In all, I enjoyed the book enough that I will probably continue with the series, though I do hope Eve grows a pair and grows up a lot!!
Veronica Fox did a good job though I got confused with her female voices at times. Some of them sounded really similar. Other than that she was a competent reader.
*I received a copy of this for review. this in no way affected my thoughts.*
"Didn't want to stop"
It was an overall great read, I liked that my teen could hear it too. Her struggles and naiveté seemed believable. She overcame so much even though journey was long and painful, there is a light......coming......I hope.
"Witches,Vampires and Humans"
Yes very much so would
Eve's story lifts you with hope, betrays you and then builds you back up again. I can't wait for the next audible book to come ou
She was great and I love her Charlie voice. Nice Sexy english accent. I forgot it was a woman narrator, she is that great
Sometimes, I felt sorry for Eve, other times, I called her stupid

I enjoyed this book for the most part. The characters were very unique and interesting. However the storyline felt very rushed while the ending felt very abrupt. I'm undecided as to if I'll continue the series.
"A immortal witch who can rule the world"
I was given this book for a honest review. This book had a lot of suspense as you go with Eve through her abusive childhood, her growth into a evil witch, and her discovery of who she really wants to be. She encounters fake friends, real friends and the start of her true life and identity. She fights her power to become what she really should be.
"Can't wait for the next book!!!!"
I loved this book! I enjoy reading stories with strong female characters , and I was nervous about reading a book about Eve who seemed like a victim at first. The story was unique and you become invested in the main character. Eve's story lifts you with hope, betrays you and then builds you back up again. I can't wait for the next audible book to come out!! Might have to actually buy the book :)
"Witches Vampires and Humans who would have thought"
Eve, Charlie, Boaz, Lucien. Where do you start? Eve is a witch raised by wicked witch parents. she refuses to use her powers because she sees how her parents ae using theirs. Along comes Boaz with his own agenda who gets her to become almost as bad as her parents. What do Lucien and Charlie do? How does Boaz react to their inteference? This is not the brightest of books. Lots of dark charcters and events. The narration could have been better and the story is more for a young adult rather than for seasoned readers. It did keep my interest yet I don't think I will come back for books 2 and 3. That is up in the air. I would recommend for young adults who ar getting into the paranormal reading realm.
I got this book from Audioblast for an honest review. No money was exchanged.
"Good Plot but recording speed wanko"
The plot was good, the narrator was good BUT...I had to put the speed on 1.35 just to make the narrator speak at a normal rate. I'm not sure what that is all about. It is the fastest I've ever had to put a book for a normal speaking voice. If you run it on 1.0 [normal] it sounds as though the narrator is speaking so sloooow you want to wind them up. Frustrating & anger inducing. IF there hadn't been a speed adjustment...this book would have been returned immediately and it definitely wouldn't have gotten a 4 star rating. I'm not sure WHO is messing with the speed on these books because some are at a normal rate while others are extremely slow. I wonder if it is to make the books appear longer?
This is another SERIES that I purchased the whispersync book at a reduced price & when I finished the book & actually WANTED to get the next book in the series...it isn't available in audio version. There is a trilogy in print but not for audio. So, this is a 3 way loss: mine for not completing the series & both Audible & the Author for not having it available in audio format. Sadly, for all, this will be another series that will be forgotten because I listen to so many books and won't remember to search for the series later.
Plot is basic good vs evil in both witches & vampires with a war coming on. Evil family wants daughter to accept their values. Her boyfriend, the vamp, rescues her and yet not everything is as it seems.
