Publisher's Summary

Continuing the impressive debut fantasy series from author Peter V. Brett, The DAYLIGHT WAR is book three of the Demon Cycle, pulling the listener into a world of demons, darkness and heroes.

On the night of a new moon all shadows deepen.

Humanity has thirty days to prepare for the next demon attack, but one month is scarcely enough time to train a village to defend themselves, let alone an entire continent caught in the throes of civil war.

Arlen Bales understands the coreling threat better than anyone. Born ordinary, the demon plague has shaped him into a weapon so powerful he has been given the unwanted title of saviour, and attracted the attention of deadly enemies both above and below ground.

Unlike Arlen, Ahmann Jardir embraces the title of Deliverer. His strength resides not only in the legendary relics he carries, but also in the magic wielded by his first wife, Inevera, a cunning and powerful priestess whose allegiance even Jardir cannot be certain of.

Once Arlen and Jardir were like brothers. Now they are the bitterest of rivals. As humanity’s enemies prepare, the only two men capable of defeating them are divided against each other by the most deadly demons of all: those that lurk in the human heart.

A difficult read

After struggling to get through the first two books and halfway though this one I had to give up the series.
The amount of emphasis on sexual themes and scenes is crazy. It feels like the story has turned from saving human kind to a story about who is having sex with who. Really disappointing. The premise of the story is interesting but not enough to endure the sexual cesspool that the story has turned into.

alright...

It was not as interesting as the first book. I thought there were too many long descriptions of fighting. Also, so sick of hearing "Love you, Arlen Bales."

Too broad. Needs a ruthless editor.

Decent characters and story, but pacing is slow. We backtrack in time to see other perspectives when the reader wants to progress.

The in depth look at other perspectives and the ponderous meandering through events is a bit painful. I found it okay to listen while distracted with my work days etc, because the chances of me missing anything important in the story were minimal; it's mostly filler.

The voice actor's talent kept this entertaining enough. I'll look for more stories he's narrated. It's largely thanks to him that I persisted with this in the background for days until the end.

Awesome

Love this series of books and this didn’t disappoint. Thoughtful storyline and well executed narration. Easy to listen to and easy to follow along as the two deliverers plow their way to the core.

Best book in the series so far

Love this series and the way it makes you love and dislike every main character. A must read.

Really enjoying this saga and hard to turn off.

Really pleased that this well put together tale has continued into the second book. A real depth to the characters and the rich believable realm in which they exist.

epic!

epic!! that last chapter is a jaw dropping, seat grabbing, hash slinging slasher!! the Sha'dama'ka is a likeable character! very cool just sucks that because of his religion he allows rape and murder. Arlen for deliverer though !
