This is not an uplifting tale of heroes and heroines; get that out of your head now. This is a tale of survival. It's a tale of dried blood beneath your nails, of new pain, of gnawing hunger and unrelenting loneliness, of fear and hatred, and yes, of courage.
In The Apocalypse, the great majority of the men and women who fought with honor - with a sense of duty and loyalty - gave their lives for others, leaving those without honor to flourish and rule. Their rule is not marked by decency or civility, but by wicked brutality. Yet, in some very rare cases, the kind and the noble survived. These hardened survivors learned to live among the undead, but now they must learn how to stay alive among creatures that are far more monstrous: their fellow man.

"Well written a good continuation"
The narrator did a great job with different voices for each character to help get the idea of who was talking at the moment.
This book was a good continuation from the first. It had been a few months since I had listened to the first book and a flash back in the beginning would have helped get me up to speed quicker so I would have enjoyed the first part of the book instead of trying to figure out what was going on and who was who.
As it is it really feels like you are just bouncing around for the first quarter of the book for no reason.
There are a number of places where the plot just seems to jump then get partly filled in with the back story from some other character. This still leaves some scenes stretched for continuity and a number of brushed over holes.
Over all it is a good action packed zombie story that doesn’t isn’t full of a lot of gore. There are a number of touching scenes to help you relate to the characters and pull you into the story.
I would recommend it but also recommend listening to it right after the first book because it is a continuation of what seems to be the next week.
"Great second book!"
I really liked book one and dived into this straight away, well I'm glad to say that it was even better than the first!
There are a lot of different characters, and while all are well written and developed, my favourite by far is Jillybean. She absolutely rocks for a little girl!!! So brave and smart and along with her Zebra, Ipes, she was fantastic.
So much happens in this that it's a story that needs to be savoured. Each of the original characters have their own tough time, but add in some new ones and you get a fast paced and gripping tale. Poor Ram!!! My poor heart, and poor Jillybean! She just wants a family!!
This grabbed me right from the start and didn't let go! I listened to it within 2 days and had a hard time taking out my headphones as the action was non stop! I needed to see what happened next. It's a thrill a minute!!!
I'm so glad I have the 3rd to jump into straight away because these books are addictive!!
Basil Sands, once again, was amazing. For the amount of characters that are in the book, and the fact that non of them were mixed up, shows what a great narrator he is. He gave each character their own voice!

"Awesome Zompoc story!"
Realistic fantasy. I feel like this is actually what will happen when the zombies start to take over.
Superb storytelling, it’s like watching a movie. I feel connected to the characters and wonder what I would do in the same situations.
Great details, funny, thrilling, chilling, disturbing, sometimes horrifying, and very sad, everything I think the zombie apocalypse should depict.
Humans in the ZA will revert to animal instincts, kill or be killed. Do whatever you have to do, so you, your family and friends survive another day.
All while watching for the human predators and hoping not to fall victim to those humans, who are worse than the zombies.
That’s the realistic part of the fantasy being told here.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series and I hope it is a movie, too.
I thought that both books were amazing. I know some people complained he was racist in the books.... But look at the news and what is going on I do not feel he is far off what would happen. As well as some of the military's behavior there are stories of units going off on tangents following their leaders orders blindly. As far as the reviews saying he was sexist his strongest charters were women. Love these books hoping for more.
"Finally some answers"
This is the best apocalypse book I have read. It gives so many answers, that in my opinion are very often left hanging. The first book gave an posable back story to the outbreak.
"Best post apocalyptic series of all time"
Best post apocalyptic series of all time. Enjoyed every second of the book. I recommend it to everyone.
"Loved Jilly Bean..."
My favorite character in a long time is Jilly. 6.5 yrs old Zombie hunter! To bad she's going to be messed up.
"Amazing & Captivating leaves u wanting more!"
100% honest, this book leaves you craving the next adventure! Jillibean makes you marvel at the will power, strength and determination of the soul of a child; thrown into the bowels of hell and expected to die, she not only survives she triumphants at every turn. Well written and beautiful spliced together story lines catch u like a fish on a hook and pull into the struggles, sorrows, fears and emotions of each character.
The constant thrills and change in scenarios made this book hard to pull away from. Sometimes I wish my commute in the mornings were a bit longer! Peter Meredith does a good job in setting the emotion of each moment and Basil Sands does well with the voicing. You'll end up really liking some characters and hating others, as I'm sure was intended. Definitely recommend this read/listen.
"Solid follow up."
Much like the walking dead, you never know who is going to die. I think this book the author was a bit more gentle than the first but it is still very dark.
The characters doing stupid things over and over got a bit old. I think if you have survived that long you learn as you go or you die. That wore a bit this second book. Also so many nut jobs, I think the herd would of been thinned out by now just as the decent population has been.
It follows the theme of the first book but coming up with a new way to present danger would of helped a great deal.Bad people might exploit good people but they would also eliminate other "bad" people to thin the competition.
Yet again another brilliant instalment. this book left me thinking the next chapter would sort it all, keeps you wanting more and more
"quality was there but.."
it had a massive jump in the story. and lot of holes and unfinished sub plots. But a good yarn.
"loved it from start to finish, hope there is a 3."
loved it from start to finish, hope there is a 3, basils voice is great.
