Publisher's Summary

The Mistborn trilogy has become a firm favourite with fantasy fans the world over. The imagination that Sanderson brought to the series and his skill at marshalling epic storylines and dramatic action, plus his ability to create vivid characters, made him a natural choice to complete Robert Jordan's epic Wheel of Time sequence. But with Mistborn, his stand-alone fantasies, and his new series, The Stormlight Archive, Sanderson has shown his bountiful talents in his own fiction.

Now he returns to the series that made his name with a new story set years after the events of Hero of Ages

In a world recovering only slowly from evil, a world where allomancers wield immense power through their ability to unleash the magic bound up in common metals, someone who can burn metals that no-one has burned before can tip the balance....

Sanderson has the knack of giving epic fantasy listeners exactly what they want. This ability has thrown him to the forefront of the genre and the dramatic story within The Alloy of Law shows off this skill to its very best.

Not just an addition to Mistborn

I was incredibly hesitant to start Era 2 of Mistborn and took a break by indulging in Way of Kings, Elantris and Warbreaker.

Coming back to Scadrial was like coming back to a familiar room. The references to the original Mistborn consistently made me smile and I believe I'm a bigger fan of Wax and Wayne than I was of Vin and Elend.

The fight scenes and combination of new powers made my jaw drop. Without spoiling anything I am left wondering if Brandon Sanderson knew this far in advance how he'd have the various powers work together.

Michael Kramer, as always, is excellent. Like a grandfather I never had who was telling me a story.

A different kind of story, in an evolved world

This story feels less grandiose than the original trilogy, more like a detective novel set in a world that both feels very familiar and very different.
I like the different angle this book takes on what type of story can be set in a world we loved from the first 3 books. But because of that we are missing some of the grand spectacle that we've come to get used to.

Doesn't live up to the Final Empire

I loved the Final Empire - brilliant story, brilliant narration - with one of the best most satisfying conclusions to a trilogy out there. It left me hungry for more.

This was not nearly as good. Almost farcical in the end with the commitment to logical storytelling thrown out the window. The epic scope and well thought out plot is gone - replaced by a popcorn thriller. One not good enough to entice me to the second book.

Bit short but an amazing read nonetheless!

Like the last 3 books but with more of a modern twist, still great read.

A good follow on from the original Trillogy

If you’re like me and found yourself disappointed that the Mistborn series had ended, I recommend picking up this spinoff trilogy. Well written by Brandon and well narrated by Michael. The only negative is that it’s not nearly as in depth as the previous series, but a good expansion nonetheless.

Good, but not great.

Good story, a little predictable. Some of the exposition seemed a little overstated and the language was sometimes overly descriptive.

So very dull

I don't know about Brandon Sanderson, his work seems very hit and miss. This book was so boring, I don't know how I managed to get through it all.
I don't have any desire to continue with the series and to be honest, I don't think I will be listening to any more of the author's writing. His style isn't for me.

Great characters

Really enjoyed this. Initially disappointed that it wasn’t a direct continuation of the Mistborn Trilogy. But quickly became connected with the characters and enjoyed the plots. Zoned out a bit during the fight scenes. Bit tedious.
