"A fantastic listen"
This book kept me interested into the very end. I am not a person who picks apart a book on its technical details but by the pure enjoyment of the read. I am sure there are parts which are not up to the other Star Trek writes, but I still enjoyed it considerably. Having it narrated by William Shatner was a bonus and added to the books quality. I will be listening too all the books in this series.
"Kirk through Shatner's Eyes"
and it is wince-inducing. This is a sub-par Star Trek novel. In fact it sounds like a slightly longer version of fanfic that you can find online. The plot is thin and there is zero character development.
It gets two stars because it's amusing to here Shatner give voice to Data.
"Excellent Star Trek Story and Borg."
It was very well done. I enjoyed the plot and story. Good weaving of Captain Picard and Captain Kirk and Borg.
"spectacular use of the Star Trek Universe"
Shatner has exceeded all my expectations and achieved my impossible desire for Pjcard and Kirk to collaborate again. I know the remaining stories wil not fail.
"cool borg ships and riker and data and laforge"
good . veger and ships borg secrecy and legends of generations of old and new
The book is good; however, Mr. Shatner's pacing of the book is hurried to me. In an attempted to be suspenseful, he rushes much of the detail. Special effects are used to change his voice some in the book for secondary characters, but it can be difficult to tell a difference between main characters. Overall, I've always enjoyed this book, but it might have been better in audio if read by someone with better vocal skills and pacing.
"I truly loved it!
The tie to V-ger was genius."
It brought together the old and new masterfully...and solve the question of the Borg origin. Well done!
Shatner does a great job... but he should try to change his voice up just a bit more for the different voices .... really have to pay attention when everything sounds like it was said by Kirk! lol.
"Interesting story, good performance"
The storyline has a few holes, but overall- a good story that I wish they made into a movie when it was still possible (actors' ages, missing the late L. Nimoy).
Shatner is a great and passionate performer, although all characters sounded much like Kirk, unavoidably.
"Wish it had ALL the original actors."
As much as I enjoy hearing a Star Trek book read by William Shatner, I find that it can make it hard to follow the story. Especially while listening to it in the car. If you lose focus for a couple of seconds it can make it difficult to ascertain which character is speaking since they ALL sound like Kirk. Overall I enjoyed the story and regret that it will never see an on screen adaptation.
"Shatner writes himself back to life"
In many ways I get the feeling that Shatner wrote this book because he couldn't cope with the idea of a star trek universe without Kirk. Kirk is the out and out hero in this book and while most of our other favourite characters appear, this is a kirk story.
The book shares Shatner's bombastic sensibility and addresses many of the failings of the 'generations' film. The book is a no holes barred adventure and is has a unique charm. If you enjoy Shatner's sense of humour and grandiosity you will like this.
"Makes me wish this was unabridged...!"
This is one of the better Star Trek audio books out there - but I just wish this was the full, unabridged, version...! It's an old recording now (roughly 10 years old - coming out not long after the Star Trek: Generations film, and the Ashes Of Eden book preceding it) - but it stands up well!
Spock - because his character's backstory managed to put a completely unexpected perspective on the closing parts of the story!
The scene where Kirk and Picard meet again!
It made me smile as I listened - reminding me of the golden days of Star Trek!
"An enjoyable story and read by the one of the best"
The story follows on well from the Star Trek Generations movie. Whilst some elements of the plot are a bit far fetched it's a great listen and has all the classic Star Trek moments. Kirk and Picard in another battle to the end. Enjoyed it.
very engaging and well told.
Shatner is AWESOME AS EVER
great use of Characters and fits nicely in the timeline
"Great book for trek fans"
It was great to hear a new sorry about some much loved characters. The story itself was pretty good. I think fans of the show will like the book. I really liked how it used extra characters in little cameo roles.
Kirk returns back, but in a strange and mysterious way; only to risk his life again.
"shatner is amazing"
the story is amazing. the narrative is well thought out and the sound effects help make the story more real. I would recommend this book to everyone who is a star trek fan.
"A welcome inclusion of Kirk into Stat Trek"
Yes. It's great to see William Shatner's contribution to the Star Trek mythos. It's a great 3hr
story featuring Kirk, Picard and Spock. it's thrilling to listen to and follow.
Ashes of Eden although I haven't listened to it at time of writing this review.
The characters come to life and Shatner brings enthusiasm to the story associated with him playing the part of James T Kirk. The whole story is covered with his passion and dedication to the genre.
Yes unfortunately I had to listen in two parts as there wasn't time.
A great story and well worth the price paid.
