Publisher's Summary

Survive the infection! Survive the infected.

Book 1: A new flu strain has been spreading across Africa, Europe, and Asia. Disturbing news footage is flooding the cable news channels. People are worried and frightened.

But Zed Zane is oblivious. He needs to borrow rent money from his parents. He gets up Sunday morning, drinks enough tequila to stifle his pride, and heads to his mom's house for a lunch of begging, again.

But something is wrong. There's blood in the foyer. His mother's corpse is on the living room floor. Zed's stepdad Dan is wild with crazy-eyed violence and attacks Zed when he comes into the house. They struggle into the kitchen. Dan's yellow teeth tear at Zed's arm, but he grabs a knife and stabs Dan 37 times, or so the police later say.

With infection burning in his blood, Zed is arrested for murder but the world is falling apart, and he soon finds himself back on the street, fighting for his life among the infected who would kill him and the normal people, who fear him.

Book 2: Slow Burn: Infected picks up the story of Zed, Murphy, and Jerome where Slow Burn: Zero Day ended.

All three have been infected but have not succumbed to the most pernicious symptoms of the virus. Nevertheless, their band of fearful survivors, have ostracized them.

Back on the street, with weapons to defend themselves but little food in their packs, they embark on a search for Murphy's family while following a rumor of safe haven in the form of a doomsday bunker in east Austin.

But the world is more hazardous than they know. They expect violence from the voracious infected, but they have harsh lessons to learn about the uninfected. And humans to support the infrastructure of modern civilization, they find that danger comes in many forms.

Book 3: Zed is saying goodbye to one friend and pressing forward.

"Great story, but the narrator has kidney stones"
Would you listen to Slow Burn: Box Set 1-3 again? Why?

If someone else narrates. EVERY statement is over stated, female voices are... not, ethnic voices are stereotypically degrading. All in all, great story line, really bad narration.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jason Damron’s performances?

    No thank you

    Story
    "A Must Read!!!"
What made the experience of listening to Slow Burn: Box Set 1-3 the most enjoyable?

It was great to listen to one of my favorite zombie series, added a new element to the reading experience.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The escape from the gymnasium in book 1.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me laugh in some scenes and caused me to really contemplate the human psyche in other areas.

    Any additional comments?

I'm not usually a fan of zombie books, zombie films yes, this series is different than most zombie series. There are zombies, survivors, and in-betweeners, this book really examines the psyche, emotions, actions of all three elements to the point where it's almost realistic.

"Fantastic Story - This Zombie series rocks."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This Zombie series rocks. The hero is a just a regular guy thrown into a crazy situation.

Love the author's sarcastic sense of humor.

    "NARRATION CAN MAKE OR BREAK"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Jason Damron is actually enjoyable to listen to IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO SLOW IT DOWN BY 50% as I fortunately do on the Kindle fire. If I did not have this option I would have trashed it in the first 10 minutes.

What did you like best about this story?

At first I thought it a bad case of over dramatic, until I slowed it down. The story develops nicely with some twists that I have not seen in this genre. And that's saying ALOT considering how many titles of this sort are in my library.

What three words best describe Jason Damron’s voice?

    Way too fast.

Was Slow Burn: Box Set 1-3 worth the listening time?

    Definitely.

    Any additional comments?

I will definitely listen to more of this series.

    "Awesome electric tension"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

OMG......Brilliant!!!!! This has got to be one of the best zombie apocalypse book series I have ever read. Its like I was there, its realistic, and left me wanting more. The action is intense, edge of your seat, the zombies threatening. The story was filled with electric tension that sent chill up my spine.

What other book might you compare Slow Burn: Box Set 1-3 to and why?

"Zombie Attach" was tame compared to "Slow Burn"

What about Jason Damron’s performance did you like?

Jason Damron has a easy to listen to voice. His voice was full of tension and excitement.

If you could take any character from Slow Burn: Box Set 1-3 out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I like Zeb the main character. He's is likeable and brave. He's a regular guy just trying to make sense of a world gone crazy. He's not perfect and has a short fuse, but he's loyal to his friends and can be trusted.

    Any additional comments?

This would make a great movie.

    Story
"Great books, not sure about the audio book."
If you could sum up Slow Burn: Box Set 1-3 in three words, what would they be?

I love the books, I love the style and the story and characters really stay with me. As i told Bobby, i am not sure how I found the books, but sure glad I did, I bought for Kindle first and super awesome. This is the first book in a long time that made me thing about the characters while at work. Zed, Mocha Frost and Mandy. I actually can be driving down the road and say "Damn Zed, why did you do that?", or "Zed, its not play time, be careful."

What was one of the most memorable moments of Slow Burn: Box Set 1-3?

Really there are many moments that made me think. I think seeing / reading Zed grow, granted its not the best time to discover yourself and grow, but he did. I did like that. I love zombies, and survival stories, I do not play Rambo and I do not prepare for these events. The thoughts of the characters, how they react and learn, that is real. Reading / listening to the infected "learn" was a super great take. Bobby did great!

Have you listened to any of Jason Damron’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of Jason Damron's other works. I do like his voice, bit Zed seemed like a younger voice. Jason really does have a great strong voice. Plain fact. But for Slow Burn I thought his voice was, well actually too strong. In the sections where the characters are conversing, and there is a lot of "he said" type pf lines, I feel the reading was a little fast. However, I wish Jason could leave my voice mail message.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were some times were I did laugh. But again, Zed really grew in the book / situation.

    Any additional comments?

In the end of the day, these are great reads, and I look forward to reading / listening again and again.

    Story
    "So bad that it's comical!"
    Any additional comments?

I read the reviews. I went into this knowing that the majority didn't like the narrator. I've been in this situation before and have always been able to overlook a poor narrator. But this is in a league of it's own. I actually laughed out loud in the beginning, because it's sooooo bad that it's comical. It must be a joke, right? The only reason to say every word like your constipated is for comic relief, right?
But ya know, something came of it.......I was able to finish the entire book. Even with the worse narration that I've ever heard, I finished the book. The writing was quite amateurish at times and there were just stupid inconsistencies, but I finished! At the end, I really wanted to know what happened next. I think as the story went on, the writing got better. Just keep Murphy from laughing, Zed saying "whatever" like a teenage girl, and please don't even attempt to do female voices, and it's tolerable. Your brain starts getting use to every word being said in hyperdrive.
As I looked into book 4, I see that the narrator is the same. *smh* And the book is only 5 hours. I don't care how much I want to know how the next book goes, I'm not willing to waste a credit on it. Even if purchasing the whispersync audio to go with a kindle, it's not worth the $5. If the narrator was Sean Runnette, the narrator of the later books, then I'd probably buy book 4, because Sean can make the dullest book amazing!

there aren't any well flushed out female characters until book 3, other than that the world is interesting and the two main characters are very believable. the book is less dystopian than i hoped but still good... the slow burn consept is interesting and well explored

I cant even begin to say if the story was good or not, the narrative was the worst voice acting I've ever heard. Lame to the point of intentional sabotage. Disappointed because I love me some zombie story.Ughh
