    "Great characters, good story."

Overall a great book, great characters and settings. One of the better fantasy series on Audible.
Unfortunately the are some strange long pauses and jumps with audio, that are obvious enough to be a little distracting

    "Great listen."

Im afraid Peter Joyce may have been given little instruction on the correct pronunciation of many of the key characters names in this series, but otherwise the performance is adequate.

He is consistent and his characterizations are subtle but effective for the most part. The voicing of Baru and Murmandamus I feel are dead wrong, but hey, that's audio books for you.

Well worth the buy if you dont have the time or inclination to sit down with this great read.

"Great second chapter in tue series."

I enjoyed this book much better than the fo2rst one. With the characters introduced already in Magician, Silverthorne was able to go deeper into each of the characters and there bonds. My favourite character Jimmy the Hand was brilliant and I can not wait to see what other mischievous events he gets into. Fantastic read can not wait to start book 3.

    "Brilliant!"

Peter Joyce may annoy me with his pronunciation of certain names but his character voicing is brilliant and inspiring. The book itself, as with the rest of Raymonds works, is of the very highest magnitude in epic fantasy. Brilliant!

    "Can't stop, can't get enough!"
What made the experience of listening to Silverthorn the most enjoyable?

A great follow up to Magician. Has a few funny moments that you don't get in Magician. Feels like it should be longer, but then after the first book, and the fact it's actually 2 books, I guess it's to be expected. Looking forward to the next in the series!

    "Silverthorn"

A strong beginning followed by a slightly lower tuned ending, is my summation of this novella. Overall i realy enyoy this book but i feel its ending is a bit rushed and abrupt, and lacks propper intrigue. That said it is a marvelous book i whuld say and the characters are very collorfull. I whuld highly recomend it for everyone.

    "one of the classics"
If you could sum up Silverthorn in three words, what would they be?

read it again. this book is part of the original set, and takes you through the beginnings of pug's story. you start to relate to the characters from a very young age and watch them grow.

What other book might you compare Silverthorn to and why?

non so far. i haven't followed any other series as much as i have followed this one.

What three words best describe Peter Joyce’s performance?

ok. maybe he should steer away from some of his voice overs. i always imagined someone to have a deep voice. but he gave them a high pitched squeaky voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

always at the end when the royalty are giving rewards

"As Good As Good As I Remembered"

I've read the Rift War books many times over the past 20 years and was worried that a narrator wouldn't match my memory. I had nothing to fear, other than some random pauses which must have happened as part of the mastering process the story was well told.
The story is a proper adventure/quest tale which is well paced and an excellent if too short follow up to Magician. It also sets the scene perfectly for the climax in Darkness at Sethanon.

    Any additional comments?

If you have not listened to or read Magician, stop now and do it first.
By the end of this story, Jimmy the Hand has become a solid favourite of mine. He is courageous and intuitive and loyal to the end. Prince Arutha risks life and limb to save his beloved Anita and makes loyal friends on a dangerous quest which may cost the lives of all of the men who started it. Pug’s bravery and belief in doing the right thing, brings an end to the government of a foreign land, and he must flee for his life. Will he be safe if he can get back to his own world? Will the war between the two worlds finally come to an end? What will happen to Tomas?
I could not stop this thrilling sequel, and trust that the conclusion to this trilogy will be as much of an adventure.

    "Excruciating listening"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this book; mainly because it is formulaic and badly written; there is a story there, but all the stuff that goes with it is painful!

What other book might you compare Silverthorn to, and why?

Every other fantasy fiction which comes out of hero/goblin/magic theme. You need to be an exceptional writer to actually make these books work.

How could the performance have been better?

A different narrator may have made a difference. He labours the 'he said'/'she said' parts to the point of suicide!

If this book were a film would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

    I think I've said enough!

Narrator does his best with poor material. The story's weak and the narration exposes all the faults in the writing. The constant 'he said, she said' nearly drove me to switch off and the writer needs a dictionary. He used the wrong word on more than one occasion. .Disappointing
