Overall a great book, great characters and settings. One of the better fantasy series on Audible.
Unfortunately the are some strange long pauses and jumps with audio, that are obvious enough to be a little distracting
Im afraid Peter Joyce may have been given little instruction on the correct pronunciation of many of the key characters names in this series, but otherwise the performance is adequate.
He is consistent and his characterizations are subtle but effective for the most part. The voicing of Baru and Murmandamus I feel are dead wrong, but hey, that's audio books for you.
Well worth the buy if you dont have the time or inclination to sit down with this great read.
have waited for a long time to have this book brought to audible have enjoyed reading it many times and this was wonderfully narrated
A great follow up to Magician. Has a few funny moments that you don't get in Magician. Feels like it should be longer, but then after the first book, and the fact it's actually 2 books, I guess it's to be expected. Looking forward to the next in the series!
wonderful, exciting, expansive and suptemely put together and thought out. a timeless classic i have read or listened to 5 times
Loved the story and narration! Book is flawed though. The chapters are merged together sometimes, so a new chapter might begin when there's 20 min left of the previous (according to timing, nothing is missing). Also, wrong numbering on chapters.
Ah Peter Joyce my man, what a great narrator sounds like, love his rich voice and how he brings each character to life, I enjoyed this right though to the end, now on to the next instalment 😱
A strong beginning followed by a slightly lower tuned ending, is my summation of this novella. Overall i realy enyoy this book but i feel its ending is a bit rushed and abrupt, and lacks propper intrigue. That said it is a marvelous book i whuld say and the characters are very collorfull. I whuld highly recomend it for everyone.
"one of the classics"
read it again. this book is part of the original set, and takes you through the beginnings of pug's story. you start to relate to the characters from a very young age and watch them grow.
non so far. i haven't followed any other series as much as i have followed this one.
ok. maybe he should steer away from some of his voice overs. i always imagined someone to have a deep voice. but he gave them a high pitched squeaky voice.
always at the end when the royalty are giving rewards
"As Good As Good As I Remembered"
I've read the Rift War books many times over the past 20 years and was worried that a narrator wouldn't match my memory. I had nothing to fear, other than some random pauses which must have happened as part of the mastering process the story was well told.
The story is a proper adventure/quest tale which is well paced and an excellent if too short follow up to Magician. It also sets the scene perfectly for the climax in Darkness at Sethanon.
"A great listen"
Read exceptionally well as before, great story and very enjoyable to listen to. Looking forward to the next installment and the conclusion.
"Not worth a second hearing"
Narrator does his best with poor material. The story's weak and the narration exposes all the faults in the writing. The constant 'he said, she said' nearly drove me to switch off and the writer needs a dictionary. He used the wrong word on more than one occasion. .Disappointing
Fantastic story as always
Epic adventure well read
Moving in to the next story in the series
only one negative - bizarre pronunciations on some names, but didn't detract from a rivetting story.
I enjoyed this in the car. was very well read and was really well done
"Big fan of feist. peter joyce isnt half bad"
Big fan of feist. peter joyce isnt half bad narratng though I find him much better at 1.25x speed on audible :)
Good follow on from magician , a few edit errors in this recording like a couple of times you hear a repeat of the story but apart from that an excellent narration
more enjoyable than when i read it years ago highly recomended, cant wait for the finale started the download before i finished this, again i wish that somone would make this series in to films
