Set 20 years after the events of the Riftwar, Prince of the Blood follows the adventures of Prince Arutha's sons in the dangerously unstable Great Empire of Kesh. Twenty years have passed since the end of the Riftwar. Prince Borric con Doin and his twin brother Erland have been summoned back to their father's court in Krondor. Prince Arutha has decided he needs to tame his spirited progeny and teach them statecraft and responsibility.
Shortly after they arrive home, therefore, he orders them to Kesh, to represent the Isles at the Empress' 75th jubilee. But before the new ambassadors depart, they are attacked. The foiled assassin's suicide reawakens fears that the Nighthawks - a brotherhood of killers for hire - are active once more. But the truth is far more disturbing: The assassin was a member of the Royal House of Kesh….
Despite the dangers, Borric and Erland's mission continues, it being vital to sustaining the fragile peace between the two nations. But the brothers have little idea of the exotic world of Kesh, the strange players at this alien court, nor the hidden forces intent upon tearing the empire apart.

enjoyable
It was good to see what has become of Prince Arutha and this is about his two sons - both on separate paths, -one a fugitive and one a future king--make their journey toward maturity, honor, and duty. It was a good story and a nice fantasy political thriller. Not gripping but an enjoyable read

I just wish some narrators could use a dictionary
I think pronunciation is important.
for example, this narrator, amongst other discrepancies, miss pronounces combatants.
he says comba-tants rather than com-bat-ants. if I'm wrong, then my apologies but I like to listen to the kings English, not some evolutionary bastardisation that's occurred because his teacher was incorrect!! bad pronunciation in narration is as bad as bad spelling and grammar in writing. it takes away from the enjoyment of the story as I get fixated. especially when the word is repeated throughout the book!

second reading, still great, well narrated
I have read this book before and enjoyed it, the experience of listening opens us to a whole new spectrum of enjoyment, as I get older reading was getting harder, tired eyes meant shorter reading sessions, not any more. thanks Audible.

shorter but still fantastic
at around half the length of most of his previous books this one still manages to feel like a grand saga. it also introduces probably my favourite character from the series "nakkor the blue rider" :p. well worth the time to listen to /read

Rarely a dull moment. Peter Joyce is well suited for such a genre and even better suited to speak for such characters, both noble and traitorous alike.
