Publisher's Summary

Predator ships stream into human space in unprecedented numbers. The Colonial Marines, controlled by Weyland-Yutani, respond to the incursion, thus entering the Rage War. This terrifying assault by the Yautja cannot go unchallenged, yet the cost of combat is high.

Predators are master combatants, and each encounter yields a high body count. Then, when Lt. Johnny Mains and his marines - the VoidLarks - enter the fray, they discover an enemy deadlier than any could imagine.

Audiobook one in an epic trilogy that continues in Alien: Invasion and concludes in Aliens vs. Predator: Armageddon. The universe will forever be changed.

    "Frantic sci-fi"

Lots of action but also layers of concepts to develop (AI humanity, cultural insights etc.). Think the reading was excellent and highly recommend this audio book to anyone after Aliens/Predator, you'll get what you're after. basic dialogue and limited expansion of interesting sub plots stopped it getting the full 5 stars, but don't let that stop you!

    "Worth getting!"

A good listen for any AvP fan.

Tim clearly has a great grasp of the Aliens universe. The story is original but also familiar, with all the grit of being off world with the Colonial Marines. Imbedded with Indies and settlers, and spearing xenomorph heads with Predators.

"I was really wanted to like this book!!"

Let me start by saying NOOOOO!!!! I have been waiting so long for a new Predator book to come out and was disappointed...
So when I think of Predators, BAD @SS is all I really thought needed be said and is the only reason we read Predator books! That being said maybe Tim Lebbon needs more input. So to most of us fans, Predators are super high tech, Huge hulking Hunters with really cool weapons! So Great and Scary in fact that Superman himself has a difficult time defeating one!
Mr. Lebbon portrays them as little more than red shirted Startrek extras! He has them die by the dozens; Running from battle getting chased across the Galaxy; Making deals with humans because the big bad xenomorphs are bullying them! Just generally weak.
It is 600 years in the future and the Predators are still using the exact same clunky technology as 1987?? Meanwhile the humans have developed cool spaceships, stealth suits that can do virtually anything, and countless other super weapons!
There was a time when killing a Predator was a challenge and took 300 pages to get it done! Tim Lebbon managed it in the first chapter!
To sum it up if you want to watch predators run away and hide. Oh wait they can't hide because their cloak technology sucks!

    "Wow"

So, I almost didn't finish this book but this was my fault. I wasn't really listening to it the first time! I had to restart the book and pay attention. I'm so glad I did finish it because all the story lines tied in with each other so well by the end I was at the edge of my seat. I don't want to give anything up but I am a long time AVP fan and I was pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to read the next one! Please listen carefully. There are like four story lines going at once and it could be easy to get confused if you aren't really listening. It's definitely worth your undivided attention.

"Hard to get into, but overall worth it."

Starts off very slow. A lot of boring 'historical' parts. Give it time it gets a lot better. Will be trying the second book. It's worth noting I'm a fan of the theatrical movies the aliens and predators. This might not be your cup of tea if your not.

    Story
"Might not be what you're expecting."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes. I was expecting a book about Predators and humans, and most likely Aliens. While you do get some of this, easily half of the book is spent telling you about a different group that are the catalyst for the actions of these three races. Most of this book is the set up for action in the next book. I was hoping for much more of the classic suspense and action of the original alien and predator stories. This book gives you more sub-plots and politics.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

When you actually get to an action scene involving the marines and the Predators and Aliens, the story does get very intense. Unfortunately, it then cuts to a scene discribing some historical information, or a meeting between the Company and Marine officials. While these scenes are needed for the plot, the way they are placed in the story really cuts in on the excitement and messes with the pace of the story.

Which character – as performed by John Chancer – was your favorite?

Character development was good on all of the main characters. I actually felt there might have been a little too much of it in some cases. John Chancer did a good job bringing life to the characters, though. I really enjoyed the personality he was able to give the marines when they were giving each other a hard time.

Do you think Predator - Incursion needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Absolutely. Most of this book was spent setting up the next in the series.

    Any additional comments?

Not a bad story at all. Also not what I think of as a classic Alien or Predator book. If that is what you are looking for, as I was, then it's a little disappointing. Otherwise, though, it is a decent read.

    "Ambitious... but doesn't deliver."
What was most disappointing about Tim Lebbon’s story?

Minor spoilers for the series ahead...

The story doesn't really fit the Aliens or Predator mythos. They take away some of the defining aspects of those two groups. The Aliens are traditionally hive-minded simplistic killing machines? Let's find a reason to make them organized. The Predators are tribal and motivated by "the hunt"? Let's find a reason to make them allies to the humans. Also, we can talk to them now. The humans are still the worst characters. The bad guys motivations are hollow. The human protagonists are one-dimensional. If you're a fan of the gritty feel of the universe in the movies, you get a generic sci-fi universe with plenty of plot convenient technology that constantly prevents suspension of disbelief.

The series is a serviceable time-sink, but for a fan of the franchises it's more frustrating than entertaining.

    Story
"Desperate need of editing, and or re-writing."

Compared to the neat, clipped and tight writing style of Alan Dean Foster who wrote a lot of Alien Novelization - this story wanders and bores like Grandpa Simpson rambling about the old days. After five hours of dull, non-stop introduction of characters the story still manages to pile up, and yet things still go nowhere. Even with major explosions, space disasters, and xeno attacks, the story still manages to remain dull, and stays uninteresting following marines, scientists, and Weyland Yutani employees as they basically worry, feel ill from space travel and fret about their futures. Chapter after Chapter of new characters bore and troop on by like a parade. and I just don't care. Worst of all no real interaction of the Predators which this is named after and what I paid money for.

What I wouldn't give to have a no nonsense character, with good dialogue like a John D. MacDonland novel, with a Predator in the story. Well nothing like that here. Maybe in hour 7 they will start to show up and thin out some of these awful characters, and then story will pick up and be more manageable. But there's better books here on Audible to spend my time - thanks.

"Just couldn't get into it. "

I've been listening to audio books every other day for about 7 months now and I just couldn't get into this one. The first part of the book drags out, especially when there are 5 or more main characters to keep up with and all the voices sound the same. I didint make it to the end. Lost enthusiasm. Maybe a better read than audioble. :)

This book is really good, and quite addictive! Anyone who loves the alien and predator universe won't be disappointed. Be aware that it's the first of a three books series, you'll buy the next ones too after finishing this.

I wish Fox made this into a movie! I'd do it myself as I'm a film producer, though I'm pretty sure Fox owns the rights to Predators and Xenomorphs.

What did you like best about this story?

The parts to do with the Predators were my most favorite parts of this story. I like how mysterious they are and want to know more about them. I just wish there was more of the Preds, like their culture, habits, home lives and so on.

    Any additional comments?

Good story overall though, really enjoyed it.

after a bit of a slow start and trying to follow each main characters storyline it soon picks up and is pretty gripping and entertaining. a story set further into the future than other aliens predator books it's interesting to see the advancements in human technology. the second half of the book is strong and leads nicely towards the next book/chapter

    Story
"In Space Nobody Hears You Sigh"

Maybe I am being a bit harsh on this one . . . there is a decent story in here. The rationale that is drawn for the incursion of the Predators is actually clever and unexpected. There are some good action scenes and a couple of very powerful scenes. One involving a young girl called Luciana is particularly moving.

However, there were problems for me. Rather than being a story centered on these iconic monsters of Sci-fi it felt like one that merely used them as the monsters it required for the plot. In addition the narration is good for the most part but the very strong, tough female characters at the centre of the story were made to sound very “girlie” by both the dialogue and the voicing - sorry there must be a better word or phrase than “girlie” but I can’t think of another one that says quite what I mean.

What I really missed though is feeling the sense of dread of the aliens or the predators. It just wasn’t there for me and more time should have been spent stirring that up rather than the back story about the Founders. I will say that the scene set for the second book seems promising and it’s very possible that this will be a series that picks up momentum as it goes on. It could be that if I accept the role that the predators and aliens have been given which is a subservient one I’ll enjoy it more, but sadly I’m not completely sold on it yet.

    "Confusing"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really time well spent. The story jumps between different locations and times that was very difficult to keep track of.

What could Tim Lebbon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Stick to one time and location!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrator was ok, although some of his voices added to the overall confusion.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

    No.
