Publisher's Summary

Discover Captain Phasma's mysterious history in this "Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi" novel.

One of the most cunning and merciless officers of the First Order, Captain Phasma commands the favor of her superiors, the respect of her peers, and the terror of her enemies. But for all her renown, Phasma remains as virtually unknown as the impassive expression on her gleaming chrome helmet. Now, an adversary is bent on unearthing her mysterious origins - and exposing a secret she guards as zealously and ruthlessly as she serves her masters.

Deep inside the Battlecruiser Absolution, a captured Resistance spy endures brutal interrogation at the hands of a crimson-armored stormtrooper - Cardinal. But the information he desires has nothing to do with the Resistance or its covert operations against the First Order.

What the mysterious stormtrooper wants is Phasma's past - and with it whatever long-buried scandal, treachery, or private demons he can wield against the hated rival who threatens his own power and privilege in the ranks of the First Order. His prisoner has what Cardinal so desperately seeks, but she won't surrender it easily. As she wages a painstaking war of wills with her captor, bargaining for her life in exchange for every precious revelation, the spellbinding chronicle of the inscrutable Phasma unfolds. But this knowledge may prove more than just dangerous once Cardinal possesses it - and once his adversary unleashes the full measure of her fury.

Weak start good finish.

During the first hour or two I could care less about the characters or situations and really thought, is this where Star Wars Publishing jumps the shark?

VERY HAPPY to be wrong!

As the story went on I was pulled into it and waiting for my next walk or drive to continue listening to the story.

January LaVoy did an outstanding job giving life to the host of characters and the production values are consistently excellent and Delilah S Dawson a fabulous job weaving the story. In the end, a very enjoyable read!

A most illuminating insight totally recommended

This book was not was I was expecting and I have to say it was sooo much better.

This book gives insight into one of the most villainous characters I have encountered in the Star Wars universe ... ever!

I loved the delivery and the story had me hooked from the get go!

The narrator was great and her impersonation of plasma was flawless.

I whole heartedly recommend this story to any Star Wars fan.

good but preachy

the story got a bit boring with purple prose and preachy repetition, as well as being terribly predictable, but ultimately was a fascinating peice with some truly wonderful writing in places. The performance was spectacular and immersive.

Mysterious Dystopian Mad Max Star Wars = AWESOME!!

This book was very different to most other Star Wars books. It had a really familiar dystopian feel. In fact, Star Wars Explained summed it up really well by describing the feel as very Mad Max. Honestly, I read this book so fast that I couldn't stop. The writing felt addictive, and I just wanted to know more about the mysterious death Goddess in chrome. No, for real, though, I didn't know anything about Phasma before reading this book, and now I have huge respect for her. It is good to get more of her story.

A good back story

I would not have guessed in a million years this was the way Phasma came about and rose in the First Order. A very imaginative tail and well performed. I just hope that it ties into the movies in some way because it implies that she has a past that may catch up with her some day.

Highly recommend this to any Star Wars fans who want more than just the films to enjoy...

Good First Order backstory.

In the Force Awakens Phasma was clearly meant to be a character of importance, with her different armour and clear position of power. The full character treatment was denied to her in the film, but this book does a wonderful job showing who she is and why she attains such position.
The characters are all well fleshed out and it lays the foundation for the state of people in power that we see in the film.

Phastastic

It was a well narrated and engaging plot, no slow or dull moments and it provided a cohesive story about Phasma.
