"Herbert was by no means literary, but his work had a raw urgency. His best novels, The Rats and The Fog, had the effect of Mike Tyson in his championship days: no finesse, all crude power. Those books were best sellers because many readers (including me) were too horrified to put them down.” (Stephen King)
"There are few things I would like to do less than lie under a cloudy night sky while someone read aloud the more vivid passages of Moon. In the thriller genre, do recommendations come any higher?" (Andrew Postman, The New York Times Book Review)
"Herbert goes out in a blaze of glory" (Daily Mail)
This was the first audible book I purchased to 'entertain' me on my long drives. I can say that I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed the plot of the story and it did make my journey less tedious and long. Worth a listen.
Upon his death a movie star handsome man jumps at the chance when offered another life to redeem himself from living such a selfish and vain life. He will have no memory of his current life and will return horribly disfigured.
As the story unravels the purpose behind his deformities become relevant and he must do whatever he can to stop the gruesom horror that he uncovers.
A good thriller with a original story.
"not for me"
I really did not like the way he tied sins to being born with handicaps
the main one
"Very listenable as ever"
It's up there with all of James's books as thought provoking as ever. Great story teller, with new perspectives.
Dis as main charater
Always makes you consider all avenues
A++++ book!! You must get this!!! Soooo good!!! Loved the writer and will bet getting another book soon!!!! Thank you
"I would recomend this book a good read"
I have not read the book. The detail of the characterS was very good, I didn't realise this was based on a true events and shocked me even more at the end to fine this out. The book was very good at putting both views across.
I would compare this with Beautiful Mind and The Elephant Man
I think the scene in the News agent was very effective
I didnt want to put this book down, I actually found it hard to sleep until i finished it.
This was an Excelent book
"a nasty book that lingers with you."
Very well written with good character development. One of the most disturbing books I've listened to on here.
"A really great and different read"
I love James Herbert. So I'm biased. Did I love the books 2&3 of the Rats - er, not so much, but did I love this, yes. All the better that it's based on a true story.
Narrator was good, convincing. Characters were enveloping, and the plot, it was brilliant. Missing his writing now he's gone - but the brilliance lives on
