Publisher's Summary

We all have inner demons. We fight them all the time. Some of us achieve inner peace by coming to terms with them. But how do you come to terms with inner demons that tear free and become outer demons?

Eric has been a vampire for nearly a century, and his demons are more than metaphors. While they controlled him, he was the Demon King. Now he has to avoid the monsters in his own mind, as well as angry nobles, fanatical religions, assassins, magi, other vampires, criminal organizations, and the neighborhood gossip.

He wants two things: To find Tort, and to have someplace to call home.

It may be too much to ask.

    "Great Books!"

So... For an Audible listener with over 900 books in my library, I have fallen down as a reviewer.
I am back because this author and series is more than 5 star. I describe Nightlord as the longest audiobooks that pass in the blink of an eye. Each book is 40 hours of wonder. The slow parts are so engaging that I want to stay and live with them. The hard parts are wrenching.
I have several favorite authors. Bujold, Jordan, Sanderson, even Asaro.
This story is fabulous. Two and a half days to get through 37 hours of audio, and now I have to wait for the next.
    Thankfully there is a next.
I can't say that I would ever want it to end.

"i dont know about the ending but it was good."

i love this series but this book seemed to fast paced and shoved an ending out. it doesnt end eny questions from the last book and adds more, like its setting up for the next book. i think it was obviose the auther was writing himself into a corner every time he thought an encounter took to long, so he "jumped" him into a new one.

"I'm addicted... Give me the next one!"

This series is like nothing else out there. It is one of those rare things that is truly unique. A vampire, who is also a wizard, has a daughter made of Fire, can travel into alternate universes, and is trapped in the mind of his evil alter ego.... need I say more? This story is complicated, funny, and makes you think beyond the norm.

Hellar is such a great character. His relationships with women seem so realistic for a fantasty novel. I like the new love in this book and I hope that doesn't get her killed in the next.

There were some things I questioned... Fire Brand and Hellar are close, they come across as friends to me. But there is this moment when Fire Brand states he doesn't love Hellar only respects him. Hmm?? Also, if the evil alter ego is killing people on a regular basis, would Fire Brand like him better that the real Hellar?

To all who are reading this to determine if this is worth your credit, then the answer is YES. you won't be disappointed.

    "Outstanding"
Would you consider the audio edition of Orb to be better than the print version?

A great followup to the prior two but still leaves unanswered questions, can't wait for book 4. The reader is outstanding and consistent through all books. he lends a personality that is believable and compelling. A great combination of writing and reading.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Orb?

The entire book was memorable, one chapter seamlessly leading into the next

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

His generosity with the barn and neighbors

    Any additional comments?

I would urge Audible to grap all that Whited has written. I believe that if he pours as much into each book, everything he writes is or will be a great read/listen

"just what I was hoping for"

If you are debating this book it is a safe bet that you have read the first two. This is definitely a continuation of the same type of story and style. I read a review off Amazon where the reader stated to just not even consider because the book goes nowhere. He could not be more wrong. This story is all about going somewhere but even the main character is not quite sure where. It is about the unfolding and ongoing experiences of his life since becoming "undead" told in a diary format. This chapter brings him to another world that takes up about 2/3 of the book (lots of fun) and yes again a cliffhanger at the end. As long as it takes to write these books it will probably be a long wait. I would rather wait than get an inferior product. I LOVED this book!! Actually, I bit the bullet and re-listened to 1,2 and the new book. Over a hundred hours of fun. If you enjoyed his previous books in this series do not hesitate to spend a credit on this one.
A note about Sean Runnette - Yea!! so glad he continued with the reading. It would not be the same without him.

    "Oh Eric!"

A fabulous 3rd book in the wonderfully created Nightlord series. It may be my least favourite of the three, but rest assured, that's not saying it isn't a great book.
Disappointed he didn't hook up with Fred again when he could have. Would have liked to see more of a development in his daughter/granddaughter relationships. I see the need for Mary, and while I don't dislike her, she's a very good character, I certainly don't like her for Eric.
The last scenes are gruesome! Wonderful and horrifying at the same time. Poor Eric. Hurry up with the next book Garon!!!

More good stuff from the NightLord series I really hope "someday" is dealt with at some point and I don't have to wait 5 years for the next book... There had better be a next book.

"Nightlord - more of the same; just brilliant!"
Where does Orb rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love this series, it's great. Definitely for grown ups and most certainly not for the squeamish. Maybe not THE best series I've listened to, but it's certainly up there and close. You really need to have listened to or read the first 2 books to get the most from this one - and if you already have, you don't need me to tell you, it's going to be worth continuing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Orb?

Probably some of the darker elements - wont say more,it would be too much of a spoiler.

Have you listened to any of Sean Runnette’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, I couldn't (maybe even wouldn't!) listen to a Nightlord book without him as his voice is just perfect for the role. I had my doubts at the start of the first book, but he grows on you and I love listening to him now. There is the occasional mispronunciation (to an English ear), but I can forgive him for those.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely not. It's just too long, which is great for me as I mainly listen when I am running, but with this one, I often kept the book running for quite a while after the end of my run as it's just too tempting to continue.

    Any additional comments?

Love this whole series! Strongly recommend it to anyone who likes a well crafted fantasy novel. The stories are adult and multi-levelled and always leave you wanting more. This one has more than a few loose ends to tidy, can't wait for the next...

what Garon Whithed has done is create a scenario to a fantasy world in a truly engaging and believable way.

the characterisation and single view point with frankly superb narration draws you in. You are there believing and feeling it. it is a poor word to use really but you just are there with him rooting for him screaming no at him or just wandering woth his thoughts.

superb. Only problem is I don't thing there will ever be enough of this that can be write?, narrated and listened to in a life time but I am willing to be a part of that trilogy if you guys accept the challenge!
