We all have inner demons. We fight them all the time. Some of us achieve inner peace by coming to terms with them. But how do you come to terms with inner demons that tear free and become outer demons?
Eric has been a vampire for nearly a century, and his demons are more than metaphors. While they controlled him, he was the Demon King. Now he has to avoid the monsters in his own mind, as well as angry nobles, fanatical religions, assassins, magi, other vampires, criminal organizations, and the neighborhood gossip.
He wants two things: To find Tort, and to have someplace to call home.
It may be too much to ask.

So... For an Audible listener with over 900 books in my library, I have fallen down as a reviewer.
I am back because this author and series is more than 5 star. I describe Nightlord as the longest audiobooks that pass in the blink of an eye. Each book is 40 hours of wonder. The slow parts are so engaging that I want to stay and live with them. The hard parts are wrenching.
I have several favorite authors. Bujold, Jordan, Sanderson, even Asaro.
This story is fabulous. Two and a half days to get through 37 hours of audio, and now I have to wait for the next.
Thankfully there is a next.
I can't say that I would ever want it to end.
couldn't stop listening, the story was another success, not sure how I'm going to wait for the next one.
"i dont know about the ending but it was good."
i love this series but this book seemed to fast paced and shoved an ending out. it doesnt end eny questions from the last book and adds more, like its setting up for the next book. i think it was obviose the auther was writing himself into a corner every time he thought an encounter took to long, so he "jumped" him into a new one.
"I love this book/Series but did this get Edited correctly?"
I'm a big fan of the Series. Honestly it's probably my favorite. There a lot of facets of this main character that I've wanted to see in a fantasy/vampire book for a while now. The main character is complex yet average, powerful yet controlled, moral yet lets Loose as a bad ass of destruction & wrath.
This book had action, comedy, emotion, it's well written. It leaving me wanting more... But in all the wrong ways.
Every direction the story ends up going starts well and seems to be on its way to a conclusion but get diverted with no logical way to go back and follow up. This happens like 4/5 times. In one case there is a very emotion conclusion... But your left scratching your head and asking yourself "Why was so much in-story work done (a 1/4 of the book) for this outcome".
Lots of repetitive dialogue. And by the end of the book I was so annoyed by a new character, who I first loved but later looked forward to them not appearing in a scenes.
Great conceptions & writing... Poor execution and editing. Almost like no one who read the book before publishing told the author how mediocre and open ended in was. The other book had endings with the ability for there to be more. This didn't.
I'm sad... Sad because the book was Good... But it could have been Excellent.
A great followup to the prior two but still leaves unanswered questions, can't wait for book 4. The reader is outstanding and consistent through all books. he lends a personality that is believable and compelling. A great combination of writing and reading.
The entire book was memorable, one chapter seamlessly leading into the next
His generosity with the barn and neighbors
I would urge Audible to grap all that Whited has written. I believe that if he pours as much into each book, everything he writes is or will be a great read/listen
"Great Series - But Starting to Drag On"
I like Garon Whited's writing (still convinced its Mark Tufo) and Sean Runnette is great. I will definitely try other books from this duo.
Shorten, shorten and shorten. The writing goes into too much detail about mundane facts such as trying to explain propulsion or how magic works. This is a fantasy; magic is not real and attempts to give it legitimacy by detailing every aspect slows down the story.
Sean Runnette does a good job; although every woman kinda sounds like Tommy after a while; but still very good.
Don't think this would translate into a movie or TV series.
I have all the books in the series and as much as I've enjoyed them I will not buy the next one. It takes way too long to get to any meaningful action.
"amazing series and perfect performance"
loved it can't wait for more. the sarcasm and humor is just my style .
this is an amazing series & so interesting to listen to...the author is obviously intelligent with ideas & a story of magic & the ways said magic works
"I can't wait for the next one"
I wan to kill you ( I don't literally mean it Mr. Whited) for that ending.
amazing as always cant wait for the next book one of my favorite authors hope the next one dosent take a year
I love this series of books they get you involved, asking yourself what would you do, trying to advise Hallar, knowing what path he will take, when you have listened to all the books the repetition gets annoying, but if you listen as a book in isolation I suppose you need this, all in all excellent books, but why can't we have a good ending for once, I hope there are more books on the way, it's like saying goodbye to an old friend and they will make excellent movies
"love this series."
this is an awesome series. if you have a practical mind and have ever imagined how you might cope with magic. it's amazing. well worth a read.
"Where did the first vampire arise and when ?"
Wow a wonderful series I will be listening to again wonderfully written, fantastically read, so much you disappear into the story, thankyou
I will freely acknowledge that I wasn't a big fan of book 2... mostly due to the protagonist's distracting/implausible romantic entanglements. HOWEVER this is significantly toned down in this book.
I also really enjoyed the story. I'm a big fan of world builing: I enjoy his varied explanations of how things work and the explanation of minor details. The character muses and has internal monologues that inform and entertain. There appears to be an over arching plot line on an epic scale across worlds, realities and generations.
This series is epic in every sense. Long may it continue.
"maybe the best book series I have ever listend to"
I love this book and almost did not put it down from start to finish
"Just keeps getting better. .."
I could not stop listening. Great story, well delivered. Now the long wait for the next book in the series.
"Another great book!"
Love these books, and value for money!!! I would say they go on for ever, but time does when you are having fun. I can't wait for the next instalment, sadly I know it is gonna be a while. When I first heard Sean Runette, I wasn't a fan, but stick with it, he is superb!!!
