Story
Darkfall marks the beginning of a stunning trilogy from one of Australia's leading writers of fantasy. After the death of her parents and her beloved instructor, Wind, Glynn devotes herself to the care of her sick twin sister, feeling her own life to be unimportant. One night, during a midnight swim, she is swept across the Void to the troubled watery world of Keltor, through a portal created to summon the mythical Unraveller. What is the mysterious connection between Glynn's world and Keltor? And why does the man who rescued her from the waves bear an eerie resemblance to Wind?

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Once, there were four worlds, nestled like pages in a book, each pulsing with fantastical power and connected by a single city: London. Until the magic grew too fast and forced the worlds to seal the doors between them in a desperate gamble to protect their own. Brilliant!
I really enjoyed this audio book. Normally I'm a bit hesitant to listen to author read books as they aren't usually as good as the professionals. However this is not the case for Isobelle Carmody. Her smooth voice captivates you and she embodies each character's tone wonderfully. I especially love her highlander accents! Can't wait to snap up the rest of the series!

Great Series
I loved these books growing up, the story is fantastic as are the characters.
I was interested in listening to the Author read this book, however I think a younger narrator to match the character would have been better. Overall it was a great listen though.

Great Story - Terrible Narration
I absolutely loved this book when i read it and was excited to learn the author was narrating it as an audio book. However, i was majorly disappointed. From the namw gental flatness throughout with little to no inflections.

Revisiting a favourite
Obernewtyn has been a favourite of mine since I was small. Hearing it narrated so beautifully and emphatically brought a new joy to my love of this book and I can’t wait to start the next. If you haven’t read the books you won’t be disappointed starting with the audiobook.

5 stars not enough for performance.
I first read Obernewtyn about 30 years ago. I was umming and ahhhing about whether to buy the Audiobook as I have bought the book itself 3 times already (wanted matching covers!). I saw in another review that it was narrated by IC herself! that is what sold me. I remember reading about how IC used to tell stories to her younger siblings and you can def tell!
I felt like I am was hearing Elspeth recount it. It is such a magical experience. Even if you've read it as many times as I have, it is soooo worthwhile!
