Publisher's Summary

The waters rose, submerging New York City. But the residents adapted, and it remained the bustling, vibrant metropolis it had always been. Though changed forever. Every street became a canal. Every skyscraper an island. Through the eyes of the varied inhabitants of one building, Kim Stanley Robinson shows us how one of our great cities will change with the rising tides. And how we, too, will change.

Could not hold my interest

Normally a great fan of post apocalyptic works but the story line just could not hold my interest. General feel of the book was more about the stock/betting market and less about survival. Maybe it picks up but I gave it over an hour and was bore notably bored and disinterested. Really liked the idea of multiple different narrators though that was a nice surprise but not being American the accent and specific pronunciation of some words of the first one put me off a little too, more than usual.

No story

This is like a history lesson of something that hasn't yet happened. What little story there was, went on and on and on...like listening to a teacher in class. I tried so hard to listen to it, as the front cover, title and summary suggest it to be an interesting scenario, but alas, I just kept falling asleep, or my mind kept wandering and I got sick of hitting the rewind button. I could not finish it.

geeky language

KSR wendles his way through a string a super convenient lives optimistically building a political example of our economic deadend. This rendition is great because each narrative is spoken by a different narrator and you get to hear the same characters from different interpretations. I love KSR's language too, in turn poetic and expository slotting into needs of the story, but always languid and non-urgent. Long too, great value for money.

Gripping

it started a little slow and dry in the first few chapters but the character development was soon highly engaging. It turned out to be unexpectedly humourous and fast paced compared to previous books by the author. Loved it.

Stock.Market Dissertation of Doom

Sadly the first Dud book I've had through Audible. Far too much focus on stock market tactics for my taste. It's also the first book I just couldn't finish

Brilliant tale of finance, and climate disaster.

Engaging epic that shows life and finance in a drowned city and the many lives that are affected by the catastrophe yet thrive in despite of their inter-tidal circumstances. Loved it.
