Publisher's Summary

A young man descends into purgatory to save his wife and unborn child in this tale of wonder and terror from the mind of master storyteller and acclaimed artist Brom.

Fresh out of jail and eager to start a new life, Chet Moran and his pregnant wife, Trish, leave town to begin again. But an ancient evil is looming, and what seems like a safe haven may not be all it appears.

Snared and murdered by a vile, arcane horror, Chet quickly learns that pain and death are not unique to the living. Now the lives and very souls of his wife and unborn child are at stake. To save them he must journey into the bowels of purgatory in search of a sacred key promised to restore the natural order of life and death. Alone, confused, and damned, Chet steels himself against the unfathomable terrors awaiting him as he descends into death's stygian blackness.

With Lost Gods, Brom's gritty and visceral prose takes us on a haunting, harrowing journey into the depths of the underworld. Thrust into a realm of madness and chaos, where ancient gods and demons battle over the dead and where cabals of souls conspire to overthrow their masters, Chet plays a dangerous game, risking eternal damnation to save his family.

    "Gaiman, Konrath, Stan Nicholls, Fortschen"

    BLOOD HONEY
The first hours are very entertaining and very much Brom's dark craziness. Brom's characters are usually from the seedier part of town. The children ghosts are scary and weird. The beginning of Purgatory is exciting and strange. When your dead and they cut your head off, your still conscious. That is where Konrath comes in, there is a lot of heads, arms and legs getting cut off. The book never goes on to Hell, we just hear it is terrible and I am pretty sure that will happen in a sequel.

I MIGHT BE FOOLISH, BUT I'M NOT A FOOL
Those who read American Gods by Gaiman will recognize the Old Gods being forgotten and losing their powers. That is what is happening in this story.

EVERYBODY PUT YOUR DICKS BACK IN YOUR PANTS
The main part of the book reminded me of Fortschen's Lost Regiment series and Stan Nicholls' Orc Wars. Their is a rebel bunch lead by a Confederate who are rebelling against the old gods. This leads to lots of fight scenes such as in Nicholls' Orc Wars. There is a lot of traveling through Purgatory, but not really finding anything new. I did enjoy the game part of the story, but the hours of fighting and traveling bored me. The ending was good.

R.C. Cola does a great job.

    Story
    "Great book"

This book starts a little slow and I wasn't sure about the narrator but gave him a chance... once you get used to his voice as Chet he really does a good job with the other characters. The book was very entertaining and I will definitely listen again.

    "Excellent!"

RC Bray could read a phone book and make it sound riveting. And this was no phone book. Great story! A wonderful blend of myth and the paranormal. I couldn't stop listening.

    "Generally not my genre."

I bought this Audible because of RC Bray. He makes a mediocre story good and one of his best performances. This was actually very well written and I will probably listen to another Brom.

    Story
    "Absolutely awesome!"

I definitely need to check out more if Brom's work. This is one of the best books I've listened to all year. R. C. Bray always does an excellent job with the narration but this blows his other work away! He brings each and every character to life (or death in some cases). The voices he does for the demons and old Gods is incredible. The story itself is great! Angels, demons, and old forgotten Gods trapped in purgatory.

"Surprised by the cross over appeal"

Lost Gods was entertainment at its best. The main characters were relatable and genuine. I won't mention any of the plot. If you enjoy fantasy or horror this is a great read. The narrator does a great job with expressions and voices. Definitely recommended.

    Story
    "Easy 5 star decision"
If you could sum up Lost Gods in three words, what would they be?

    Thought provoking/merciless.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Split between Chet & Gavin with all the twists. Is Gavin pure evil, or good, or worse evil, or good again or worse evil Or finally making things right with his grandson. Fascinating, simply fascination.

Which character – as performed by R. C. Bray – was your favorite?

All characters performed by Bob were off the charts, simply mind blowing, perhaps his best work to date. Scary/tough/relentless/sticktoittiveness and just never says die to any situation.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

RC is one of the very few performers I will buy sight unseen, he's that good. Great job Bob, simply amazing and mesmerizing.

I would since I loved the reader & though the book would be enjoyable to read, the reader made it all the better.

    Everything

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?
