A young man descends into purgatory to save his wife and unborn child in this tale of wonder and terror from the mind of master storyteller and acclaimed artist Brom.
Fresh out of jail and eager to start a new life, Chet Moran and his pregnant wife, Trish, leave town to begin again. But an ancient evil is looming, and what seems like a safe haven may not be all it appears.
Snared and murdered by a vile, arcane horror, Chet quickly learns that pain and death are not unique to the living. Now the lives and very souls of his wife and unborn child are at stake. To save them he must journey into the bowels of purgatory in search of a sacred key promised to restore the natural order of life and death. Alone, confused, and damned, Chet steels himself against the unfathomable terrors awaiting him as he descends into death's stygian blackness.
With Lost Gods, Brom's gritty and visceral prose takes us on a haunting, harrowing journey into the depths of the underworld. Thrust into a realm of madness and chaos, where ancient gods and demons battle over the dead and where cabals of souls conspire to overthrow their masters, Chet plays a dangerous game, risking eternal damnation to save his family.

"Generally not my genre."
I bought this Audible because of RC Bray. He makes a mediocre story good and one of his best performances. This was actually very well written and I will probably listen to another Brom.
"Easy 5 star decision"
Split between Chet & Gavin with all the twists. Is Gavin pure evil, or good, or worse evil, or good again or worse evil Or finally making things right with his grandson. Fascinating, simply fascination.
All characters performed by Bob were off the charts, simply mind blowing, perhaps his best work to date. Scary/tough/relentless/sticktoittiveness and just never says die to any situation.
RC is one of the very few performers I will buy sight unseen, he's that good. Great job Bob, simply amazing and mesmerizing.
"Best Book in a long time"
Loved this book !!! I highly recommend! Hope they make a movie! Will read again soon!
Beautiful ly written and expertly narrated. this Odyssey through purgatory is stunningly described through broms twisted Imagination.
"Wow. What a great book."
I was looking for something scary but this was not.
What it was though was truly fascinating!
I definitely recommend it if you find things like Dantes Inferno interesting.
This has HBO mini-series stamped on it. Or a movie. I could imagine Gulliermo Del Toro spinning this into a fantastic movie. RC Bray does an amazing job as usual and kept me listening for a whole day straight.
"Don't Feed the Gods"
Let me preface this by stating this is Melissa's husband writing this review.
This book has easily taken the top slot of all audiobooks I've listened to so far. The descriptive styling Brom uses throughout the novel brought me well into the storyline and helped me picture each and every one of the Gods, the Demons, the green coats, Anna, Chet, Trish, Joshua, and just about every other character. The scenery descriptions were amazing and helped paint the eerily gloomy nature that is purgatory, Stiga, Leafy, and other surrounding areas.
My most memorable moment was Chet's performance during the games. Listening as he defied the watchers brought about an intense level of focus that I have never encountered before in a story.
R.C. Bray is perhaps the best narrator I've ever listened to. This being the second narration of his that I've listened to (The first was "The Martian"), he has a natural way of voicing the story so that each characters is easily identified. Bray is a first choice for me when it comes to selecting future books.
My single favorite character from this story was Yegavod and this is due to the changes brought about to Chet's quest, which she creates. Now looking at Brom's Facebook page, I find that my mental depiction of Yegavod matches pretty closely to how Brom's artwork.
This is a book you will not be disappointed with. It is going to be hard for me to find a story that surpasses this one in terms of quality, description, depth, and plot. Easy 5/5
"Brom is a God to literature"
If there is a sequel, my prayers will be answered. Not that it needs it.
"Surprised by the cross over appeal"
Lost Gods was entertainment at its best. The main characters were relatable and genuine. I won't mention any of the plot. If you enjoy fantasy or horror this is a great read. The narrator does a great job with expressions and voices. Definitely recommended.
"enjoyed it from start to finish"
such a great story, it really helped me get through my shifts at work. it had me on the edge of my seat wondering what could possibly happen next.
From the start to the finish I really enjoyed this book. Yes the story was readable quite often but even so very good.
