A new land has surfaced, and so have old feuds. And as two armies march, Commander Vimes of Ankh-Morpork City Watch has got just a few hours to deal with a crime so big that there's no law against it. It's called "war".
He's facing unpleasant foes that are out to get him...and that's just the people on his side.
The world's cleverest inventor and its most devious politician are on their way to the battlefield with a little package that's guaranteed to stop a battle...
Discworld goes to war...
This is the 21st volume in the Discworld series.

"Nigel Planer is a stunning narrator in these stories, delivering a wide range of voices and styles while remaining wonderfully energetic and consistent." (Library Journal)
"Anyone who doesn't mind laughing themselves silly at the idiocy of people in general and governments in particular will enjoy Jingo." (Amazon.com)
Ankh-Morpork goes to war against Klatch. Great performances by Vimes and The Watch. Nigel Planer's narration has great range and makes listening a pleasure.
"A true Pratchett classic"
One of the funniest Pratchett stories. Had me rolling with laughter at times.
I prefer Stephen Bigget's narrative but Nigel definitely performed with flying colour in Jingo.
"Masterfull as always"
Another great book in the watch series with excellent narration by Nigel Planer as alway. These books always get me in a good mood.
"Yet another great story by Pratchet"
I've already listened to it twice and will repeat in few months time for sure.
Captain Carrot. He is always so diligent.
The way he impersonates every single character
"If the enemy has an impenetrable stronghold, see he stays there"
Yes, I love Terry Pratchett's stories.
This was another good story by Pratchett. Not my favourite, but a solid performance.
"The master of satire and parody at his best"
Terry Pratchett's satire is sharp, witty and so spot on in ???Jingo.??? You might only realise afterwards that you are laughing at yourself. Pratchett???s commentary on the West???s Near Eastern phobia is absolutely valid.
When a war brews between Ankh-Morpork and Klatsch, commander Samuel Vimes of the still unconvincing but multi-racial and rehabilitated City Watch can be depended on to save the day. With dependable seasoned coppers such as Sergeant Fred Colon and Corporal Nobby Nobbs at the patrician, Havelock Vetinari's side, what can go wrong? With foes like 71 hour Achmed, what cannot? With Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson what can happen?
I enjoyed this Discworld novel tremendously. It doesn???t just make fun of our fears, but also challenges the listener to re-evaluate his/her prejudice. This is undoubtedly the strong point of ???Jingo.???
Nigel Planer's interpretive reading is not only excellent, but classic and easy to listen to.
If there is one thing that did hinder a bit, it is the fact that you could hear at times that this recording was taken from audio cassette and switched to digital format. At one place you actually heard the words ???The end of side 14.??? But the little hindrance had more to do that I often had to adjust the volume of my headset to adjust to the sound.
Let the above criticism not make you reluctant to buy this Discworld novel. It???s the master of satire and parody at his best! You???ll get laughs for your money and food for the soul.
"Jingo, not just for Terry Pratchett fans"
Wonderful story, funny, entertaining, I highly recommend it. The narration is superb. The hours flew by listening to this tale.
"Trolls are Scottish???"
NO! No-no-no-no-NO! This simply won't do, Trolls are Scottish half the time and just plain confused the rest of the time, Angua sounds like a 6'4" male body builder recovering from a head cold, which she apparently caught from Sam Vimes judging by his voice (at least up to half way through the book before it finally developed), and lady Sybil makes me think of a portly matron with nothing but cotton wool between her ears. Sorry but if it wasn't for the storyline I'd plain give up listening all together. Nigel Planer doesn't seem to develop any characters before performing, instead just experiments along the way, changing tempo, tone and even accents along the way. I'm sorry but there other Terry Pratchett narrators that bring the story to life with such natural passion and brilliance of characters that in comparison makes me want to find Nigel Planer, fly there, and demand a refund!
"Terry never fails to deliver a fantastic story"
The humour and twists and turns. Always taking you to a new place in his imagination.
That constant urge to get back to the story when you had time to enjoy it. The colourful characters, fantastic humour and brilliant twists and a nod to I am guessing, De Vinci
Vimes - of course!
Laugh out loud moments
Cant get enough of Terry's books
"How do you get a donkey up a minaret?"
If you love the Patrician (and I do) you will love the donkey bit of this ridiculous, but wonderful story of Samuel Vimes's trials at war in the desert. All your favourite Ankh Morporkian characters go to war. Nobby discovers his female side,Leonard de Quirm invents a submarine, Colon is........Colon.........and all ends happily, after a fashion. And if you ever have to get a donkey up (and down) a minaret, then the answer is here, too.
"Good, but not my favourate Terry Pratchett book"
I enjoyed this book, like all of TP's discworld books, but this one wasn't quite as good as some of the others.
Nigel Planer is a good narrator but again I prefer Stephen Briggs and Tony Robinson when listening to TP.
Overall, it's a good listen, so please don't let my opinion put you off; if you like Discworld books you'll like this one as well.
"Terry Pratchett rules"
Excellent example of the Disc World universe with lots of humour. The performance was OK but fell into the usual trap of too many silly voices. Disc World is not pantomime.
"Why hasn't Stephen Briggs done more audio books?"
Absolutely loved the story but I'm very sorry to say that Nigel isn't a patch on Stephen Briggs!
Great quality audio and jingo is a particularly enjoyable disc world novel. Would recommend highly.
"Not my favourite disc world"
Struggled to follow the story really, and not that funny. But its the only one so far out of the first 20!!
"Brilliant brilliant brilliant..."
I'm a massive Pratchett fan but it has to be said this is one of his best so far. Huge fun and beautifully layered, as always. Me Planer does a really great job of the performance.
"War & Peace.. Island Style.."
What better reason to fight that a diplomatic incident due to assassination, unless there is an island to fight over....
love this book so funny in places, but a very good twist on real life
