Critic Reviews

"Laced with fantastical mysticism, it’s an allegory of nonviolence, acceptance and love in the face of adversity. . . . The narrative is intense, with an old-fashioned ominousness and artistically crafted descriptions. . . . An optimistic and unexpected conclusion [mirrors] his theme. Something different this way comes from Mr. Koontz’s imagination. Enjoy." ( Kirkus Reviews)
"Entrancing . . . as speedy a chase-thriller as any Koontz . . . has ever constructed. Written in Koontz’ late mellifluent and reflective manner . . . [ Innocence is] fueled by deep disgust with the world’s evils [and] hope for redemption" ( Booklist, starred review)
"[An] imaginative, mystical thriller from bestseller Koontz . . . This is the most satisfying Koontz standalone in a while" ( Publishers Weekly)

Little Bit of the Old Dean Koontz :D

This story reminded me of the old styles of novels that Dean Koontz used to write. Which is fantastic, because they're the Dean Koontz books i love.
This book has a little humour, intrigue, twists and turns - its all great.

Disappointed

Dean Koontz can do so much better. I can't say much without spoilers but the underlying story was way too religiously undertoned and frankly just ridiculous. And i typically really enjoy Koontz's book!

Good characters and setup, soft ‘spiritual feel good’ ending leaves unstinting storyunstinting story Arc. .

Title start it so really. Good characters and setup, however, the secret to what is wrong with the main character is lame, inconsistent and l eaves more questions than it answers. … why the eyes and glasses, why the hoodie? Became really soft ‘spiritual feel good’ crap at the end, like it set up good horror, evil puppets, the global catastrophe, the arch enemy, the other world beings, yet NONE are satisfactory followed through as the book drifted off on a story that felt kind of like it was hijacked for a made for Hallmark , hidden Christian special ending leaving unsatisfying story Arc and ultimately book. It really feels like Koontz had a lot more planned on this and was rushed, or else he’s lost how to tie great elements into a story without getting bored and slapping a ‘tie nothing up’ moralistic boring as shit Hollywood ending… just an awful awful end that leaves all the best plot setups unexplored. Don’t ignore the advice from reviewers saying this - I did as I usually like Koontz, but he shut the bed in this one… truly. I’m swaying back in Audible I hated how lazy and unsatisfying the end was that much. Imagine watching the Titanic, and right when the ships about to strike the iceberg, you get a three page summary of what happened, and doesn’t mention the iceberg, describe the ship sinking, explain in any way about the accident - just things sure are different now.
