In the last years of the Forerunner empire, chaos rules. The Flood - a horrifying shape-changing parasite - has arrived in force, aided by unexpected allies. Internal strife within the ecumene has desperately weakened Forerunner defenses.
Too little, too late, the legal rate of Juridicals is only now investigating possible crimes by the Master Builder and others. Evidence-gathering agents known collectively as Catalog have been dispatched to collect testimony from the Librarian and both Didacts: the Ur-Didact, treacherously abandoned in a Flood-infested system, and the Bornstellar Didact, who accompanies the Librarian as she preserves specimens against the dire possibility of Halo extermination.
Facing the imminent collapse of their civilization, the Librarian and the Ur-Didact reveal what they know about the relationship between the long-vanished Precursors and the Flood. The Precursors created many technological species, including humanity and the Forerunners. But the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy 10 million years before.... Because of that barbarism, a greater evil looms. Only the Ur-Didact and the Librarian - husband and wife pushed into desperate conflict - hold the keys to a solution. Facing the consequences of a mythic tragedy, one of them must now commit the greatest atrocity of all time - to prevent an insane evil from dominating the entire universe.

A good finale but perhaps not best suited to audio book, was a bit confusing at times and jumped around a lot. His voice was pleasant but wasn't really distinct enough between characters so that also added to the confusion. Tied up some loose ends so worth a read if you're a halo fan
YES! I love the Halo universe!
Getting to know the deeper stories about the Forerunners and the truth behind the flood!
He should think about doing more!
"The forerunner story has come full circle."
This a great prequel story to the Halo saga. Questions about how it all started and the ultimate purpose of everything is contained in this book.
This is a must read for all Halo fans and it sets the stage for all the games. I am now looking forward to what happens next in Halo 5.
"Third time listening this booking"
Have listened to this book three f****** times must read for any Halo fan peace
An epic adventure featuring the end of all known life in the known galaxy. How it all began. if you want to know the history of the forerunners then must read.
"Great story of the end of the universe"
The story is a great conclusion to the saga; the narrator works well with the characters. highly recommended!
"Fantastic backstory filler for Halo 4"
I wish this would have come out before Halo 4. So many questions were answered in this book that I had during game play. Occasionally frustrated by getting lost in so many multiple story lines.
No single favorite.
There were sentences that felt like they were ready by another person and then went back to normal again. Couldn't understand that.
Sigh of relief with more understanding
I have no idea how Greg, Microsoft, or 343 Industries is going to go deeper or further in the Halo saga, but I can't wait to find out.
"Strenth and lenth are not words."
The writing is well worded and flows like magic. It's very easy to follow even for people who have no previous attachments to the halo franchise. It creates an almost encyclopedic history of the major events of Forerunner history, and major political and influential figures. The ancient humanoid race is brought to life like never before outside the games thorough Greg Bears writing. I would recommend this series not only to fans of the previous installments but anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi read.
Euan Morton is an adequate vocal performer. However if you are a stickler for correct pronunciation of words like I am, the continuous mispronunciation of words that end in "gth" will wrench your well immersed imagination right out of the Forerunner ecumene and back to reality as you think"...did he really just say strenth?". This horrendous articulation of these words removes life out of the story faster than a certain Forerunner weapon removes life from the galaxy.
nette amélioration par rapport au 2e de la série! quelques concepts restent obscur par contre.
This trilogy is a great way to learn about the forerunners and their history.
"A great insight into the Forerunners"
I enjoyed the series, and this last book of the forerunner series. It wonderfully wraps up much of the mysteries surrounding human and forerunner history and pieces that lead up to the first and fourth games. It is best read/listened in order and can still be enjoyed alone.
"An excellent end to the forerunner saga"
But I wanted to know more about what happened to the characters towards the end
An excelent conclusion to the forerunner saga and ilook forward to seeing more halo books soon
"for lovers of the halo universe so many questions"
now are answered, really enjoyed the whole thing. I now want more of the history, but realise all is complete.
it covers the lure by numbers but devoid of any character. I didn't care about any of the protagonists
So there has been few weak books in the halo series all of which is highly recommended if your into the games, but the forerunners trilogy I enjoyed alot must admit. Book 2 of forerunners was ok but this picks it up and leaves you wanting more. Only giving this the 4/5 'cause at parts the narration got little bit annoying.. For me for those that have listened to this I'm sure can agree, still good buy if you want to learn of the history of the forerunners!
Don't write reviews nor do I listen to many audio books but this series was amazing, ups and downs through this book but I would definitely recommend for the very well written story (in my opinion) and definitely for the conclusion. I ended up really liking the narrator and felt it easy to listen to. Shame there are no more forunner books as these were excellent, guess I'll start listening to some of the 26th century books now.
"Just not interested"
Off shoot of the halo series. I have read the previous two books that made me think twice about buying this one. As a fan of Halo I felt compelled to buy this. I listened to this dull uneventful story wasting hours of my life that I will not get back again.
Ok I have done the 3 halo books, that is more than any mortal can be expected to stand. NO is the answer.
Ask Karen Travis to write the book.
Utter emptiness, nobody will ever make a video game of this vacuous tale.
It simply does deserve further commment
