I don't normally like abridgements, but this was really well done. This story follows Piemur, a young apprentice of the Harper hall. I love the way Anne McCaffrey interweaves her stories. They are very good even if you have never read her books before, but as you read her books, you get pulled into the lives of the characters and when you find a character you had read about earlier in a new book, it is like meeting an old friend.
"Great Book Mediocre Audobook"
I've loved these books since I was a kid (30 years ago) and have read them all at least 20 times over the years but the audio versions of all the Pern books are probably the most lackluster things I've ever heard... If I only heard the audio version I would never pick up the actual books and would have missed out on some of the most enjoyable reading of my life. Perhaps if the readings were complete or the narrator read with some enthusiasm they would have been better accepted but as it stands I wouldn't recommend them as some of your better material.
"Read it, don't listen."
of course. But not with this narrator.
Like them all
Can't vary his voice so you can't tell which character he's supposed to be.
It was a good book to read!
"More back story and fluff, less about the dragons."
Nice performance, ok story plot. Good if your looking for a little break from the main plot.
The story is good, no question. The quality leaves something to be desired. If you like muffled quality, go ahead and buy, but unless you know the story, don't bother. I was disappointed by the background noise. I don't recommend it.
Story may be okay for an abridgment but the quality of the recording is not up to standard. Very muffled. I am a huge fan of Anne McCaffrey but had I realized the quality was so poor I wouldn't have spent the money.
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook.
