Publisher's Summary

What are you waiting for? NA paranormal fantasy at its best by international best-selling author Tara Brown.

Someone is drugging the fairest of them all and hurting them in the dark corners of the forests around Port Mackenzie - shrouding the town in mystery and darkness. But nothing is as it seems. In the dark corners of the small town, there is also a light, a cure to what ails the sick. But everything comes at a cost, a price that must be paid. Aimee James discovers that cost the moment she dies. She discovers there are worse things than dying. She finds herself cursed. Discover how the Devil's Roses all starts because in the end it is the beginning that chooses who we will become and what side we will take.

Note from the author - This is the newly edited version. It won't ever be perfect because this is where I started; this was my first book. I don't even recognize the style of writing anymore, I have changed so much. So it is nice for me to be able to look at this and see where I started, how much I have grown as an author. We have gotten it as close to perfect as we can without ruining the experience of a debut novel by me, Tara Brown. Hope you enjoy, and thank you so much for listening to my beginning.

Give it listening time.

This was an interesting story and listen, it felt like it setting the scene and experiencing the main characters daily life took an awful long time before the story started to before interesting. Much of this was because though I enjoyed experiencing the dynamic between the two sisters, I wasn't really keen on the boyfriends and it took a Long time to get to any hint of the supernatural.

I suggest giving this book a lot of time to get to that point as once the murders and poisoning occurs, the story becomes really interesting and particularly the end is exciting for me and i can't wait to get started on book 2 of the Devil's Roses series.

Definite Potential but needs an overhaul.

Was Aymie's mum just a random? No real explanation there.
And who let's their daughter slip in and out of consciousness for 5 days without calling an ambulance? Thought dad was supposed to be intelligent.
After doing what he does for over 600 years wouldn't Alex know that he masks sickness and was potentially killing Aymie.
How could Aymie not recognise her chemistry teacher that she saw every school day. Big deal if he was wearing a hoody and sunnies. How could a chemistry teacher get the doses sooo wrong?
What has Gabriel's dad being a sleeze got to do with anything?
Who are the roses?
what did Aymie end up telling her dad, sister and Shane or has she just disappeared for a year. That doesn't suit her character. What happened to Alex? He just disappeared chasing his dad around.
Aymie killed an innocent, when she knew the situation was bad, she still went ahead with absolutely no regard for the girl and then dumped her body at the bottom of the ocean so her family will never know what has happened to her....bad...She should have just died. what makes her life anymore important than that girls? She didn't even step in to help the girl on the train. She's the selfish, self conceited one.
This book should have been longer or even 2 books to explain things properly. it has the potential to be fantastic but needs some fixing.

An start to a new series

An interesting story from a first person pov.
I did find some of the scenes jumped quickly without explanation but I think this is purely because it was the first book and a lot to squeeze in.
