Raj Ahten, ruler of Indhopal, has used enough forcibles to transform himself into the ultimate warrior: the Sum of All Men. Ahten seeks to bring all of humanity under his rule, destroying anyone in his path. But young Prince Gaborn has fulfilled a 2000-year-old prophecy and become the Earth King, a mythic figure who can unleash the forces of the Earth itself. He has managed to drive off Raj Ahten, but Ahten is far from defeated.
Striking at far-flung cities and fortresses, Ahten seeks to draw out the Earth King from his seat of power and to crush him. But as they weaken each other's forces in battle, the armies of an ancient and implacable inhuman enemy issue forth from the very bowels of the Earth.

"Substantial plotting, inventive magics, and enough fighting to gratify the most bloodthirsty fan." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Farland's action-packed climax is gripping...." (Publishers Weekly)

This is a great book, its quite a bit better than the first and really serves to flesh out the world and magic, whereas the first book is mostly constrained to a small area of a single country this one wanders around quite a bit. The entire plot of this book takes place in the span of just over a week, starting immediately from where the first book left off - yet so much happens that there is never a dull moment.
The only problem with this series is that it turns out their are 8 of them in total, with the latest one to be published in October of this year (2009), and as of this review only the first two books exist in audio format. So if you want a series you can read strait through you might want to stick these on your wish list for now and check back later. This is definitely one to pick up though, the scope and quality are nearly on par with authors like Robert Jordan - and I truly don't say that lightly.
"Don't do it!"
This book is filled with such one dimensional characters ("I can't let the life of my unborn child keep me from saving my people"?!?!), that it made me gag. The bad guys are ridiculously bad and the good guys are so Dudley Dooright that not one ounce of dark is in there to give them any spice! BOOORRINGGG! I had high hopes for this book because the first book in this series was actually pretty good. I should have stopped there... The anticipation of a good book was , in this case, better than the book itself.
Don't waste your credit. You'd do better to go check out Jim Butcher, or Brandon Sanderson.
"The epic continues"
Yes, this audiobook would be easy to recommend to a friend. The audiobook/book unlike some others is not a disappointment when the first book is so intriguing and interesting as "Sum of All Men."
Roland Boreson and Spring were both introduced in this installment of "The Runelords" these characters bring a new threat and heroism to the series all at the same time.
The introduction of Spring and the Averan eating the brains of a dead Reaver and getting its memories. This is a whole big bag of unknown good or bad or other worms.
"OK but not captivating."
I listened to both of Farland's Runelord books and just found something lacking. The story is fine but I just didn't care about the characters. The plot progressed but Farland needed to step back and help me know the characters and the world better. I don't know if I care enough about the story to read or listen to his next book.
the sequel continued the amazing adventure that i was having in this fantasy world. it is by far one of the best fiction stories of all time.
"really good greatly worded 5outof 5 stars amazin"
i loved it
the bear in the tree story is the best moment so good
Great book, great reading. The narration was clear (though his volume drops significantly for most of his female voices), and there were only a couple spots where he said the wrong word. Alas, nothing is perfect but this rendition is pretty close.
Wasn't OH MY GOSH BEST BOOK EVER, but it was still good. I thought it lacked a bit in editing rather than story.
Will definitely read the next one!
You won't be able to stop listening. Book one was just as good. Now I'm off to listen to book thee.
"Excellent, epic ,compelling!"
