International best-selling author Trudi Canavan returns with the second novel in the Millennium's Rule series - her most powerful and thrilling adventure yet.
Tyen is teaching mechanical magic at a school respected throughout the worlds. News arrives that the formidable ruler of all worlds, long believed to be dead, is back and enforcing his old laws - including the one forbidding schools of magic. As teachers and students flee, Tyen is left with no home and no purpose...except the promise he made to Vella, the sorcerer imprisoned in a book. Tyen must decide what he is willing to do to free her.
After five years among the tapestry weavers of Schpeta, Rielle's peaceful new life has been shattered by a local war. As defeat looms, the powerful Angel of Storms appears and invites Rielle to join the artisans of his celestial realm. But what will he require in return for this extraordinary offer?

"A must for fans of Canavan's previous work and for fantasy fans in general." (Press Association)
"great so far"
this is shaping up to be a really great series. the moral dimensions of the characters are intriguing and I'm hoping romance blooms!
"Fantastic! Though personally I'd like fewer worlds"
Adored it! The readers were top notch as well. During the highest drama moments you can just feel the characters' rage thanks to how well the lines were spoken.
I would like to see more time spent on detailed, intriguing worlds rather than tons of nameless ones with one gimmick or only one place/city worth of note. Passing through so many and barely staying at all feels like it cheapens the wonder of discovering new worlds in general. Loratia and Firea were so in depth with their own cultures, histories, and such interesting ways of handling magic. I would love to see more like them.
Also, more Vela! She's so much fun!
I would definetly recomnend this book. Going back & forth between storys took some getting used but once I did I enjoyed
Lots of twists and turns with good character development! Looking forward to the trilogy conclusion!
"Loved how it comes together!"
It great how the narrators change for the perspectives, a wonderful job in helping you to track the story. Both narrators also have a wonderful range of unique voices for both genders.
The author does a great job of creating a large diverse world. I am a fan of stories from many perspectives so this is right up my alley. It's also a long book which makes it a great deal!
I expected something to happen in 2nd book, but nothing ever did. The decisions that the protagonist do are just stupid.
I thought it was a good follow-up to the last book, and I'm wondering where things will go next in this. I expect to conclusion to be excellent, based on what has happened so far.
Great story, couldn't stop listening - night and day. I want to read the next one immediately!!!
"a worthy second tale."
after a somewhat slow start, the book picks up the pace quickly and continues to be an amazing part of the high fantasy collection.
Very intriguing. 9/10. a few turns went the wrong way, still amazing. would recommend to any fantasy fan. u love new age fantasy. can't wait for the third book.
"slow starter and very repetitive but gets better"
seemed to be hearing the same sentences over and over again; especially the rielle chapters. tyen was the more interesting story and felt like a story and not so repetitive. book gets better towards end and once 3/4 way through. voice acting was very good though and kept different characters voices same throughout, some of the accents were a little weird but you knew the character by voice rather than the story the whole time. good acting.
Brilliant book enjoyed start to finish. As always, I hope her next book comes out soon!
"Can't wait for the next book"
Engaging, clever, believable
Both of the main characters
They made the story come alive
Yes - but enjoyable to turn too whenever there was time
Great continuation, gripping and keeping entertained. Not able to predict the story line which is great.
Near the top
Trudi Cannavan's Age of Five trilogy because the magic system is similar and the plot has some similar points to it.
The magic system is so similar to the one in 'The Age of Five Trilogy' which although isn't as well known as Trudi Cannavan's other books is my favorite, and it is so easy to imagine that world is a distant world from this trilogy that is although rich in magic is isolated and untraveled to.
If you liked the 'Age of Five Trilogy' you must read/listen to this, and if you liked this one you must read/listen to 'Age of Five'
good book strange ending. look forward to the next one. love Trudi Canavan. keep them coming
I loved this book all the way, amazing performance, amazing story and overall this is one of the best series i have listened to.
"Excellent mid-trilogy book"
The storylines that were kept firmly separate in the first book are slowly starting to intertwine. Both main characters develop in leaps and bounds to a thrilling conclusion as well as an uneasy cliffhanger. The next book can't come fast enough.
