Publisher's Summary

For generations, the dragonriders had dedicated their lives to fighting Thread, the dreaded spores that periodically rained from the sky to ravage the land. On the backs of their magnificent telepathic dragons they flew to flame the deadly stuff out of the air before it could reach the planet's surface.

But the greatest dream of the dragonriders was to find a way to eradicate Thread completely, so that never again would their beloved Pern be threatened with destruction.

Now, for the first time, it looks as if that dream can come true. For when the people of Pern, led by Masterharper Robinton and F'lar and Lessa, Weyr-leader and Weyrwoman of Benden Weyr, excavate the ancient remains of the planet's original settlement, they uncover the colonists' voice-activated artificial intelligence system - which still functions. And the computer has incredible news for them: There is a chance - a good chance - that they can, at long last, annihilate Thread once and for all.

Pay another visit to Pern.

The ending of the Saga

Overall its a good conclusion to the story but somehow leaves a feeling of not quite being satisfying, & as the Author & her son ended up writing other stories about individual characters, it can be forgiven, however the narration leaves a lot to be desired, I often wish there were choices for story narration, as being Australian I don’t gel with an American accent …

The story is brilliant ... thankyou Anne. The BUT is for the American with all of the American different pronunciations. To the Englidh esr, they hurt.

Painful narraration.

I loved these books when I was young. They are not quite as good as I remembered, but still entertaining. This narrator however was terrible. I suffered through to the end but I doubt I could ever make myself listen to it again.

belabour and robotic

The narrator has replaced Master Robiton's sonorous tones with a slow deep voice so belaboured it's sometimes painful to listen to. He would never be master harper sounding like that. This leaves Fandarel without his rumbling bass- described in the text but not in the narration. The reading is not true to the written book. Large sections are absent from each chapter.
The story - follows on immediately from The White Dragon.
