The liberation of old worlds...
The addition of new allies...
The fall of a regime...
The death of a trusted friend...
The Aurora begins clearing a 20-light-year sphere of safety around Earth, taking out Jung forces as they liberate the core systems. However, Captain Scott and the Alliance quickly discover that not every world wants to be liberated, and the Jung have a few surprises of their own.

"So you wanted a cliffhanger...here it is"
I listen to audio books everyday, especially when I am working. I listen to about five books a month. I attempt to listen to books that will stimulate my creative and intelligent side with some reasonable level of drama. This book was confusing because the author made two of the smartest main characters pretty dumb to create drama and to hook us in for the next book. We don't need a hook to keep us reading, we need a good story.
I would recommend the series with caveats. I like the series (all the previous books), so I hope Mr. Brown will resurrect the intelligence of the remaining main characters, so that they can save the galaxy.
I really like Jeffery Kafer. I like his work so much, I look for his books to listen to.
I did have an extreme reaction to this book. I was pissed that Mr. Brown killed off one of the main characters. This character was one of my favorites. If Mr. Brown kills off another main character, then I might reverse my opinion of this series. I listen to these books for pleasure, not pain. Write books that give hope and not sorrow. If I want really sorry stories, I will listen to the news.
"The last hour of story killed me!"
The vast majority of book 13 was one of the best stories I've listened to yet in the Frontiers Saga universe. Ryk Brown takes his listeners to numerous points within a 20 light year span of Sol and delivers a story where the Alliance and Earth not only get an opportunity to strike back, but strike back hard. Within this scenario we are introduced to many new worlds and actually spend time on their surface getting to know the people and their values. Book 13 feels much more in depth than its predecessors in detail and span of story.
But the last hour or so of the story just kills me. It goes from bad to worse to unbelievable. I'm confident books 14 and 15 will help right some of these situations, but I was left so disappointed in book 13. The new challenges our characters face and the loss of some favorites will stay with me for some time to come. I'm also not a fan at all of characters acting outside their control as hinted back in the Liberation novel and continued here as a major theme. I would much more prefer characters acting nefariously due to a flaw in character values or something more obvious like greed or corruption. This oould be in lieu to mind control. As I'm coming very close to spoilers, I'll end here and move on to book 14 after a short break from the story to recover.
"Love the series, love the audio, but got only half"
Got only half of the audio. the last half will not download.
I have always love Josh and Loki. While I like them all and I love the series, I get more laughs from those two.
He seems to be living the story, with all the right emotions and tempo. Not just reading in monotone.
This is by no doubt not a great work of art. What it is, a good space opera. Can not wait to see what happens next.
"So F&!ng good!"
If you like military sci-fi this is a series your going to love, couldn't stop, went through all 13 books in just a few weeks
the escape of the battle curser with the jump drive, edge of your seat excitement
Hard to say, all the main characters are really good, interesting, diverse... couldn't pick one from the rest
this series is one of the most enjoyable I have come across in many years, not just the story but the story telling, Great job by Mr. Kafer!
"Not Grimm's fairy tales, it's just grim!"
Wished we could enter a portion of a star because A Show of Force is, for me, a solid 3 1/2. I feel my dynamic duo have fallen from the 5 stars I felt they deserved earlier in the series. Brown has taken our wise crackin
thrown together team held together by a unique code of honor who have
defied the odds and fought to save humanity, on earth and a 1,000 light years away, and morphed them into a large, efficient warrior group who are rapidly becoming unfeeling, almost cold blooded. There's plenty of fighting and drama, even a young romance but it's sullied by the foul language. Definately our young heros have huge potty mouths and Mr. Kafer does an admiral job of delivering every bit of it! If you want blood n guts battles vividly portrayed, black ops hindered by turncoats, and the basest of greedy, violent political enemies , get this book!
I have listened to all the other books in this series and this one did NOT live up to the quality of the ones before! Plot was full of crappy holes that just made NO sense! Just seemed that the author was mailing this one in to get the next book out. I will listen to ONE more in the series but if it is no better I am done! That's too bad because I really enjoyed the previous books!
A Long Time Until Now by Michael Z. Williamson.
I enjoy his performance and have heard him on other books. He is always good.
Has to it ended in a cliff hanger.
Just not his best work! Hope the next one is better because this one stank on ICE!
"Awesome continuation of a great story"
It is hard to tell a story that is going on in multiple locations at one time, but the author does an excellent job. The end leaves you waiting for the next book.
"Good continuation to the series!"
Lots of ups & downs, twists & turns. Leaves a lot hanging to be resolved in the next books.
"It was ok"
I find this book a little too short. I wish it were several chapters longer. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book though.
"Gripping and shocking - space chess at it's best"
Gripping, space and planetary battles, plots and counter plots with a shocking twist - wow, this series just gets better and better
"Gets better and better"
I highly recommend this novel if you've been following the series or enjoy millitary science fiction.
The story is action packed, and keeps you reading and wanting more, far more than what was contained within this episode.
The narration was great too, and is consistent with the others in the series.
If you decide to start from the beginning, be warned that the quality of writing starts off really poor and improves significantly towards the last few. Also note that we've seen a steady rate of these books so hopefully we won't be left hanging too long for the resolution to various cliff hangers!
