Publisher's Summary

Psychopath. No sooner is the word out than images of murderers, suicide bombers and gangsters flash across our minds. But unlike their box-office counterparts, not all psychopaths are violent or even criminal. In fact they are fearless, confident, ruthless and focused - qualities tailor-made for success in twenty-first-century society.

In this groundbreaking adventure into the world of psychopaths, renowned psychologist Kevin Dutton reveals a shocking truth: psychopaths have something to teach us.

Critic Reviews

" The Wisdom of Psychopaths is a surprising, absorbing, and perceptive book...I found it altogether fascinating." (Philip Pullman)
"Dutton tackles an elusive, important and much neglected aspect of the mind; our personality. He presents some highly original insights and does so in a provocative and humorous style." (V. S. Ramachandran, author of The Tell-Tale Brain)

The Wisdom of Psychopaths

Fascinating, educational and a lively read. Having studied Psychology and Criminology, I love how Kevin Dutton ties in various studies!

Always startles me with it's accuracy

Many parts always suprise me when listening to Dutton's books but the part about different brain wavelengths and the brain being "sleepy" made me have to stop in surprise. So on point he is. I loved hearing about all the different researchers and their wok on his adventure.

The amount of little things it makes me think about, reliving them in my mind when listening, is always interesting as my brain connects things it didn't realise were possibly correlated. From the link between spiritual modalities and the dark triad (which was my own hypothesis - a correlation to stoicism, philosophy and spirituality - controlling and understanding the system) low boredom threshold, chemical reactions verses bodily reactions, faking sincerity, smelling fear, flattening emotions, and the actual frightening breakdown of the average psychopath's Big 5 and realising it mimic's my own. Very enjoyable.

Thanks for writing it mate :).

Awful narration ruins book

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the narrator had been different. Especially if he'd not insisted on doing (lame) accents whenever he read a quotation.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kevin Dutton again?

Hard to tell. I can barely get through this book, and the narration is so distractingly bad that I can't tell if the book itself is good.

Would you be willing to try another one of David Timson’s performances?

Never.
