Publisher's Summary

Why did crime in New York drop so suddenly in the mid-90s? How does an unknown novelist end up a best-selling author? Why is teenage smoking out of control, when everyone knows smoking kills? What makes TV shows like Sesame Street so good at teaching kids how to read? Why did Paul Revere succeed with his famous warning?

In this brilliant and groundbreaking book, New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell looks at why major changes in our society so often happen suddenly and unexpectedly. Ideas, behaviour, messages, and products, he argues, often spread like outbreaks of infectious disease. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a few fare-beaters and graffiti artists fuel a subway crime wave, or a satisfied customer fill the empty tables of a new restaurant. These are social epidemics, and the moment when they take off, when they reach their critical mass, is the Tipping Point.

In The Tipping Point, Gladwell introduces us to the particular personality types who are natural pollinators of new ideas and trends, the people who create the phenomenon of word of mouth. He analyzes fashion trends, smoking, children's television, direct mail, and the early days of the American Revolution for clues about making ideas infectious, and visits a religious commune, a successful high-tech company, and one of the world's greatest salesmen to show how to start and sustain social epidemics.

The Tipping Point is an intellectual adventure story written with an infectious enthusiasm for the power and joy of new ideas. Most of all, it is a road map to change, with a profoundly hopeful message, that one imaginative person applying a well-placed lever can move the world.

"A very important and relevant book for all ages"

A very well written and engaging book that touches on extremely important themes worth being explored by all ages. A highly recommended read for anyone who seeks to expand their understanding of all the seemingly "coincidental" factors that shape our personality and ultimately destiny.

    "Full version is better"

The abridged version is good but the full book is way better. I read the book a couple of years ago and now listened to to the short audio version

"Interesting but put me to sleep"

Can't finish this audio book because it is just putting me to sleep even though I know the subject matter is interesting. Perhaps it is the narration, but sadly it's a thumbs down for me.

    "Enterteining"

This Book is very Entertaining. Gladwell has a fun style of writing and some interesting case studies. Out of all the book I took one message, think about who are the connectors, salesman and mavens for your business, treat them different and help the word of month "tip" your business.

This is a 4 star review because there was only one applicable thing about this book.

The narration is very good, which is seldom accomplished by the own author, it was an overall great listen

I have already heard a lot of audiobooks and despite English not be my native language, I never got trouble to understand what the narrator was saying. In this the tipping point,
    I couldn't understand many concepts.

    "An eyeopener"

Whether you are runinng a business or trying to manage your family, the book leaves you with very interesting thinking points to revisit your strategies and plans. Very mind opening and empowering.
So, yes; an excellent book to "read" and perhaps re-read..
    BUT, the narration..
The over-soothing tone of the author makes you drift into sleep in a story which needs much attention to properly follow and digest. As much flattering as it is to hear the author firsthand, narration should have been done by someone with a tone that better fits the story. So, prepare to use that 10 sec-rewind button over and over -- even then, well worth it.

Loved it, but felt it lacked more in deep analysis of all those viral cases. I have found that Jonah Berger's book goes well beyond this one, and therefore has more practical value.

    "Abridged version lacks substance"

I generally avoid abridged versions but got this one by mistake. It's not awful, but I get the feeling that a lot of the substance was probably thinned out to shorten the running time, which is a shame - Gladwell's other works contain a wealth of wonderful detail, whereas this felt like it didn't go deep enough into the points made. I will be returning it and getting the unabridged version instead.

Really enjoyed this book- was recommended to me by a friend. Was impressed by the annecdotal examples making it much simpler to understand the concepts being put forward and this made it much easier to listen to than something which would be more traditional in its approach.

"Fantastic book, not so great performance"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Tipping Point to be better than the print version?

Havent seen the printed version, couldnt say

What other book might you compare The Tipping Point to, and why?

Made To Stick, since it builds on concepts from that book and Im fairly sure they mentioned The Tipping Point in that one as well. Both are fantastic and take nothing away from each other, only deepens the understanding of trends and ways to ensure successes

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Faster pace and a little emotion. Did get the feeling of apathy and distance

    Any additional comments?

Fantastic concept and the content of the book is amazing, the reader could have used a lot more emotion and made it a lot faster. Overall great and a easy recommendation for anyone looking to broaden their understand of trends, group mentality and several interesting phenomenon in our culture

    "Brilliant"

My first audio book experience, 'glad' to have selected gladwell. Brilliant narration. The tipping point provides intriguing observations for social phenomona that were either unexplained or conventionally understood. An insightful perspective on what actually comes into play when a product or message goes viral achieving critical mass adoption.
