Graham Hancock's multimillion best seller Fingerprints of the Gods remains an astonishing, deeply controversial, wide-ranging investigation of the mysteries of our past and the evidence for Earth's lost civilization. Twenty years on, Hancock returns with the sequel to his seminal work filled with completely new scientific and archaeological evidence which has only recently come to light....
Near the end of the last Ice Age 12,800 years ago, a giant comet that had entered the solar system from deep space thousands of years earlier broke into multiple fragments. Some of these struck the Earth, causing a global cataclysm on a scale unseen since the extinction of the dinosaurs. At least eight of the fragments hit the North American ice cap while further fragments hit the Northern European ice cap. The impacts, from comet fragments a mile wide approaching at more than 60,000 miles an hour, generated huge amounts of heat which instantly liquidized millions of square kilometers of ice, destabilizing the Earth's crust and causing the global deluge that is remembered in myths all around the world.
A second series of impacts, equally devastating, causing further cataclysmic flooding, occurred 11,600 years ago, the exact date that Plato gave for the destruction and submergence of Atlantis. The evidence revealed in this book shows beyond reasonable doubt that an advanced civilization that flourished during the Ice Age was destroyed in the global cataclysms between 12,800 and 11,600 years ago. But there were survivors - known to later cultures by names such as 'the Sages', 'the Magicians', 'the Shining Ones', and 'the Mystery Teachers of Heaven'. They travelled the world in their great ships, doing all in their power to keep the spark of civilization burning. They settled at key locations - Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, Baalbek in Lebanon, Giza in Egypt, ancient Sumer, Mexico, Peru, and across the Pacific, where a huge pyramid has recently been discovered in Indonesia.
Everywhere they went these 'Magicians of the Gods' brought with them the memory of a time when mankind had fallen out of harmony with the universe and paid a heavy price. A memory and a warning to the future...
For the comet that wrought such destruction between 12,800 and 11,600 years may not be done with us yet. Astronomers believe that a 20-mile wide 'dark' fragment of the original giant comet remains hidden within its debris stream and threatens the Earth. An astronomical message encoded at Gobekli Tepe, and in the Sphinx and the pyramids of Egypt, warns that the 'Great Return' will occur in our time....

Graham Hancock is defiantly on to something. A brilliantly researched easy to listen to in my case, I'm sure just as impressive to read book. I been studying ancient human history as a hobby for years now. I feel Hancock draws together an excellent picture that combines and ties in so much of what I've come to realise myself about hunan history. We aren't being tould the truth about our beginnings. Hancock has certainly helped in correcting this, I'm certain this book is a turning point in our collect consciousness. A must read for all...
Well presented, well reasoned and balanced delivery of opinion and findings. A must for anyone who cares about who we are, where we came from and where we're going.
This book may be the most important account of historical synergy ever written. The incredibly well read and researched Graham Hancock has surely written such an eye opening account as to open the eyes of humanity, allowing us to ask all the right questions, in search of our new and measures path into the future.
Absolutely fantastic book, i was hooked start to finish. I dont generally write reviews but i find this book worthy. ill be visiting some of the sites talked about in this book next year on a holiday to South America and my holiday just got a whole lot more interesting having read (listend to) this book.
Great when you have the author himself! ! Realk y intersting subject... and this just makes me want to delve deeper. Will definately be reading more books from Graham Hancock!!!
"So good. So much information."
I really enjoyed listening to this book. Profound and extremely interesting. There is such an abundance of overwhelming information in this book that left me with an even greater respect for the ancient civilizations of earth. And I also couldn't help but to feel a strong sense of spirituality after concluding everything and in my own intellectually frail attempt to tie it all together. But the message was very clear in the end. Great work Mr.Hancock!
"The future history of our past!"
Having heard so much about this subject matter and read around it, it has been highly anticipated. Delivered by Graham Hancock himself, it was a real treat, who else can do his book more justice!?
A fascinating account to our own human evolution of civilisation that raises some very important questions. This alternative take on history needs to become main stream and the history books need to be re-written. These theory's have been gathering speed and continue to do so, with a range of factual scientific evidence that grows everyday.
Graham Hancock does an excellent job of drawing together information from a variety of fields and sources, and adds to this his imagination of what may of come before us.
"Really thorough research"
fascinating, thorough, disturbing
Noam Chomsky? The overall attention to detail when it comes to backing up data can be a little painful and dry.
He's a great narrator
not necessarily - it made me want to look things up
I think that people trying to debunk his work made him overly thorough and perhaps a bit dry. It reads (listens) like an academic text. I want to applaud him for all the hard work on bringing all that information together. I found it really interesting and it left me with a sense of deeper understanding of things.
Must be checked out. Very informative, thought provoking information!! Great listening for anyone interested in ancient civilizations and the younger dryas.
Fascinating theory of prehistoric events which legitimately challenges accepted ideas and theories. Thanks for another well researched and written, mind expanding book Graham!
"Important new discoveries about our history"
Hancock is a true journalist dedicated to researching and presenting the facts. In Magicians, he presents to us the most recent discoveries about our history in a clear and understandable format. While we wait for our education system to gain and assimilate this new knowledge it is important for us to inform ourselves of what archeologists, geologists and unbiased experts have uncovered. After the first chapter I bought this book for every important person in my life.
"Entertaining, thought provoking"
Graham Hancock's central thesis is convincing but frays at the edges. Very well read though.
was a good book really interesting and up my street some bits I got lost on but he always summarised it up and I found it a joy to read. top book
"Our future in our hands"
This is a superb book, and an admirable follow up to Hancock's previous books. Maybe a little worrying, but definitely thought provoking.
Be warned, you may have to call in sick once you press play! Mystical, factual, methodical, scientific and slightly alarming. Probably one of the best and arguably, most important books of today. I will deffinately be keeping a close eye on the sky!!
"Gets you thinking....."
I would definitely recommend this to a friend....it's an interesting and well-reasoned trek through a few millennia of what MIGHT have been.
I'm of the stout belief that you can't always believe what the mainstream scientists and 'experts' tell us, and I find it refreshing to hear a well rounded, well researched argument for the idea that we're not the first ones to inhabit this big wide world!
I read Graham Hancock's 'Fingerprints of the Gods' a few years ago and that piqued my curiosity about whether or not mainstream science is in fact telling us all it knows about 'us' and the planet we live on. I found that book a real eye opener and, although I've seen plenty of 'experts' debunk what was written, I still see that book as a well-reasoned argument about us not knowing everything there is to know about how we got here and what has happened to the planet in the short space of time that we (humans) are supposed to have been around.
In Magicians of the Gods, Graham Hancock expands on his original book and brings forward a lot more ideas and evidence of his being right in the first place. To my mind this is not done in an extremist nor amateur way, but with proof and well reasoned arguments as to what he has seen and researched. There will always be 'educated' scholars who will try to argue that if someone says something contrary to their ideas, then those arguments MUST be false because whoever came up with those ideas aren't in the mainstream gang. However, saying that, I find it much more interesting that people like Graham Hancock can make me think that he's on to something out of the ordinary. To that end, this is a very interesting read which I would recommend to anyone with even the slightest interest in 'alternative theories' about who we are and where we came from.
"Engrossing and Compelling"
I found this totally engrossing and compelling. The facts and interpretations presented cast a whole new light on our pre-history and our near future. It questions some of the weaknesses in the scientific approach which have resulted in partisan and irrational arguments being applied to ridicule and dismiss reasonable, and in fact compelling, interpretations of the facts available that are consistent with stories passed down by our ancestors from around the globe. This points to an advanced civilisation being all but wiped out by a comet impact around 12000 years ago and warnings that the same comet may be returning on a collision path in the near future. This book is a brilliant call to arms for the world to unite and avoid this potential catastrophe.
"Another fantastic piece of work from Mr Hancock"
A continuation of a body of work that has opened my eyes on so many levels!
I salute you sir on a job very well done :)
"Massive improvement on Finger Print of the Gods"
I have followed Graham's works since the mid 90s with a mixture of wonder and disbelief. Many of his concepts are so far from the realms of modern understanding that they instantly get dismissed as crazy.
Many of his previous works held for me a kernel of truth surrounded by lots of ideas that I either did not follow, or found to be less than convincing.
However this book is most certainly his best, aided by further research and discoveries by mainstream science and I both followed and agreed with his reasoning throughout.
In addition he has a very easy to listen to voice which placed emphasis exactly where the author intended it to be placed giving a much more complete vision of the work than would have been the case if an alternate narrator had been used.
Recommended to all except the close minded.
"The story of mankind (an alternative history)"
A fascinating romp through the history of mankind via the most mysterious megaliths on the planet. Mr Hancock uses history, science and legend to show evidence and plausibility for a highly civilised society having been wiped out many thousands of years ago. This is a scholarly book which should not be dismissed lightly by academia.
Read by the author the only irritation is his strange habit of changing the vowel sounds in some words.
"A Fascinating Subject and Engaging Performance"
I doubt the audio version of this book would have been so captivating, were it not for Graham Hancock, narrating Magicians of the Gods, himself. He is truly engrossed in the subject matter and his knowledge and passion are delivered in a way that I have not heard in other audiobooks; where there may often be a trace of insincerity in the reading.
"A must Read"
I can't get enough of Graham Hancock's work it truly is remarkable. So many questions from the past left unanswered and brushed under the carpet by the so called experts that believe they know everything. Hancock explores our past and points out so many hidden truths that have been bypassed. Before I found out about Graham hancock (from a Joe rogan podcast) I had no real interest in history, but now I am hooked because of this guy. This book will really open your eyes and make you wonder about our past and ancient origins.
