"The course is enjoyable and feels natural"
Look forward to surprising my friend by speaking Espanol )
Michel Thomas has an authentic feel in the way he teaches. the style is natural, the students who learn from him give us a parallel to relate to.
"A 'must have' for any aspiring learner!"
One of my most favourite practical Spanish lessons. Brings a new approach to learning through absorption as opposed to learning through memorisation.
I had to listen to it quite a few times but it is working for me at the minute. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is wanting to learn Spanish as an additional language.
Painless and very informative! It was easy to follow along without losing interest in the material.
Yo necesito mas!
As a complete beginner to Spanish I was expecting this audiobook to maybe teach me the alphabet, some numbers, some basic greeting ... it did so much more than that! I listened to the recording in the car on the way to work and even after the first 30 minutes, I was able to put together some very sophisticated sentence structures and understood, based on common letter patterns and cognates, how to construct many more. Michel Thomas' style of teaching and the use of two students in the recording ensures that you quickly learn how to build up full, very useful, sentences, as well as understand what not to do (as the students make exactly the same mistakes that you will!) I would whole-heartedly recommend it.
"Really excellent way of learning espanol for me."
Yes. I really like this way of learning languages. Given basic words or ways of saying things and then having to work out how to say phrases from these. Great learning in a kind of problem solving way where the mind naturally picks up and remembers things from almost working out/realising and teaching itself, rather than repetition.
Works well for my mind and memory that way.
"Works for me"
I tried the free 20 minute sample lesson to begin which I would recommend to see if this style of learning suits you.
My first impression was that it sounded very unprofessional but once I heard the way the tutor interacts with the students I realised it is part of the informal teaching technique.
By the end of 20 minutes I was able to understand some basic sentences and by the end of the introductory course I am able to structure basic sentences.
I like the fact that it feels like you are partaking in a class and that I'm not the slowest member (though it does get a bit frustrating that the male student still cannot pronounce "puede" after about a thousand attempts)
As other reviewers have pointed out be aware that the introductory course is the same as lessons 1&2.
I intend to buy the other lessons in the course and expect my Spanish to vastly improve
"Fresh approach to learning Spanish"
I will continue giving Michel Thomas a go, because there were some key learnings in this chapter that stuck with me.
There are two "students", a male and female, accompanying Michel Thomas. The male student is incredibly irritating because he is slow and gets it wrong all the time. If it was just Michel and the female voice it would be great.
"Great teaching style, infuriating delivery. "
I found this teaching style to be marvelously effective, having not experienced it before with other languages. However, the constant mispronunciations by one of the students, and the constant subsequent corrections made by the teacher are maddening. Also, it sounds like Michel (teacher) is sucking on a lolly throughout the entire lesson. Unnecessary on both counts.
"great gateway to a new language"
had done the full french course and now trying out Spanish. so far so good
