Collins Italian with Paul Noble combines an exciting, new, non-traditional approach to language learning with the easy, relaxed appeal of an audio-only product. No books. No rote memorisation. No chance of failure.
Paul Noble is a genius with a higher IQ than Einstein. Despite this, he still struggled with language learning at school. He found himself feeling 'confused, incapable and unable to really say anything'. As a result of his negative early experiences, Paul has come up with a ground-breaking new method of language teaching that removes the need for months of study. With Paul Noble, everyone really can speak a language.
Part 1 of the course covers:

Picked this book up to check how it worked and was throughly impressed.
I found I was able to take in the information and retain it. I have been using other learning methods for a while but I found I was learning more through this book and far easier.
Books 2 and 3 are now in my library ready to go
The effectiveness of any language audio book is very dependent upon your particular learning style. Most rely on repeating phrases in the hope that the listener will eventually absorb and memorise the language, problem is most forget within days. Paul Noble's approach to teaching Italian is radically different and very, very effective. Noble gently and conversationally de-constructs the Italian sentence into an equation with a start, middle and end and uses clever mnemonic devices such as the "Maria and Mario" rule to empower the student in building their own language. Book One of the three book series is full of "I finally get it" moments as Noble the tutor, supported by crystal clear delivery of the Italian phrases from a native italian female speaker, unlocks the recipe to bake your own italian in a clever and engaging way. Buonissimo!
It totally exceeded my expectations. Paul Noble is an amazing teacher. Great pace and easy to remember. I feel confident to travel around italy now and speak some italian.
"Painless and This Works, Really!"
This is not a story but it is a fabulous way to learn a language. Fully recommend this program. If you are worried that you can't learn Italian, stop worrying, start listening. Always enjoyed a British accent, bonus.
Not a story, educational. Closest would be one of The Great Courses.
When he said....posse prenotare un camera con banjo? My heart melted.
Speak Italian To Me
"Mind Numbingly Boring"
I can’t understand why anyone would think that Paul Noble is such a great language teacher. I literally fell asleep just listening to his “ground rules” on the audio sample on this page. I still ordered the program and continued sleeping through it as he droned on endlessly in a low-energy monotone.
I don’t know about you, but I want to speak ITALIAN. If you’ve ever heard real Italians speak, you’ll notice that they are extremely HIGH ENERGY people with a lively language.
To give you some contrast, check out the Power Italian 1 Accelerated by Mark Frobose. The free audio sample will explain why I think “Learn Italian the Natural Way” should be named “Learn Italian (Maybe) While You Sleep”.
Power Italian is much better in every way.
So is “Learn in Your Car Italian” by Penton Overseas. They blast you with a gong every now and then between lessons, but at least you stay awake.
I also learned some Italian with a memory technique that’s almost as good as Frobose’s in Power Italian. It’s the famous Pimsleur programs, which are also quite good, but just use a very limited vocabulary base.
"Great intro to the language!"
I was skeptical at first but ended these lessons with the ability to string together short sentences. The repetition was just enough to keep the information memorized.
Clear concise and logical instruction for an adult learner. This is the best basic Italian course available to English speakers. Thank you, Paul.
"Really helpful and easy!"
I felt like I could speak sentences I Italian in the first 20 minutes. He teaches by repetition, the way babies learn to speak. He also focuses on what is the same about Italian and
English, instead of what is different. Love it!
"Really good way to learn a language"
Gives you time to answer and the vocab is nicely spaced which means it is easy to recall and remember.
"Easy and so much FUN!"
At the top. Best language learning style that I have encountered.
The author/narrator has a easy voice to listen to.
I feel I am grasping Italian at a faster pace than I thought I would. I travel to France next and I will get his French lessons.
"Effortless & quickly see the result"
This is really good
Complicated grammar but explained well
connection and cues btw Italian/English
This is really effortless, and in short time you can speak a long string of useful italian phrases which also give you a lot of interest and confidence in studying Italian
"Easy to follow - can't believe how much I learned."
Found this very enjoyable and really useful. Felt that I was learning a language rather than a vocabulary. Feel inspired to learn more and for the first time ever I feel that I could actually learn another language.
"Best Language tapes ever!"
It teaches the language in a way that makes sense without the stress of learning all the usual technical explanations of grammar and conjugations. Conversational and helpful in learning to construct sentences from the very beginning, the same way we learned to speak our native language.
It was interesting hearing a British accent teaching Italian!
I am 75 years old with no natural ability to learn languages, yet am now able to make myself understood by natives of the country! Who would have guessed that was possible? Also, I have since learned that learning a language opens new neurons in the brain which can help avoid the dreaded alzheimers. It's a better way to learn because the audible books are downloaded on my Iphone and can be listened to while driving. I am sold on these programs.
"Great introduction into learning Italian."
Learning Italian with Paul Noble was so easy. I suprised myself how easy it was to learn the language using this technique. He also shows you little ways and clues to remember the words and phrases. Just brilliant!!
"Great value, excellent way to learn"
I normally use Michel Thomas method language lessons but initially chose Paul Noble for Italian because of the bad reviews Michel Thomas Italian received. Paul Noble uses a method very similar to Michel Thomas but more methodical and with a native Italian speaker for better pronunciation. On the downside Paul Noble is very slow moving both in terms of progress and slow speaking which I found so irritating that I switched back to Michel Thomas.
However as I found out, the bad reviews of Michel Thomas Italian are well deserved, so found myself switching back to Paul Noble. This time I set the play speed to x1.25 and this made all the difference.
To start learning a new language my experience is that Michel Thomas or Paul Noble is a must. Paul Noble is certainly better value than Michel Thomas but you may prefer Michel Thomas' style like I do. However for Italian I'd strongly recommend you choose Paul Noble.
"Enjoyable to learn Italian"
Soon I will go on a holiday to Italy, and the only word I already know in Italian is "Ciao!", which won't get me far. I have always been a bit reserved in acquiring language learning materials, as most are complex and boring, but this book is the very opposite in my opinion and I am looking forward to beginning on book 2!
I like Noble's voice, and the way he explains things in a straight forward way. The pauses you get to repeat the sentences and words are perfect - not too short, and not too long - and the italian voice is also soothing and easy to listen to. There are plenty of repetitions, but I don't mind it. Besides, this is done deliberately, to make you remember more easily, and as time progresses you come back to what you have learned earlier on.
I'm a complete beginner so I found Paul Noble's book very easy and fun to use. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a basic understanding of the Italian language.
"The Very Best Starter Course to Learn Italian"
My husband and I restore houses in France as a full time job 6 days a week, so the only way I can learn a language is via something that is completely "audio based" - I have no time to study "accompanying booklets or notes". The Paul Noble series of 3 is fautless in this. If you listen to nothing else to learn a language, then this is the absolute MUST to start learning a language. He explains everything so well, his instructions are clear, and there is no gratuitous chat or jokes that others seem to waste so much time in doing. At the end of the three series, I felt confident and happy, and never needed to look at any of the accompanying booklets - fantastic when you really do want to learn via an audio medium. My only critisism - that Paul Noble does not continue with more series. I have tried other options to continue my learning, but nothing compares to his clean and clear way of teaching.
"I struggled with Italian, until now"
I had virtually thrown in the towel with regard to learning Italian, but came across this book and so many mysteries about the language were dispelled very quickly. With previous attempts I had stalled because
Certain elements didn't seem to penetrate my concentration and/or understanding. I found everything was explained perfectly AND I understood all that was conveyed. I have suddenly acquired a greater confidence with the language and eagerly anticipate a steady progress using this and the remaining books in the series. My grateful thanks go to Mr Noble et al.
"Another great language learning experience"
Learning that sticks
His tone & repetition really makes the language learning stick, in a way that other language learning tools often don't.
Ha, really can't imagine a film of a language learning audiobook!
Thoroughly recommend. Wish he did a sequel or intermediate option to follow.
It really is very good. You can listen when driving: it doesn't require you to read the screen or type. You can repeat but you don't have to: I'm not so wild about speaking, in terrible Italian, into my phone while shopping.
He uses several different methods to help the "reader" link words and phrases and thus aid recall.
"A Great Way to Learn a Language"
Yes. I consider this Paul Noble series to be about the best audible language learning on the market.
No memorable moments, it is all consistently good.
Yes! I found myself unconsciously remembering most of the lessons.
I found the Introduction to be overly long. He did not need to spend 20 or so minutes talking about himself.. However, this is the only grumble I could muster.
The first on language tuition and so undoubtedly the best!
I've picked up several useful phrases very quickly.
Fantastic tuition. Reminds you of thinks diligently without being patronising and has a friendly style that's easy to listen to.
The alphabet and numbers were meant to be at the end but didn't appear to be there. This is a fault with Audible's rather than anything else, they obviously didn't think to include it even though it's mentioned by the narrator. Feel a bit shortchanged by that but otherwise this was great!
"great learning tool"
Great. disappointed when it ended. will continue with the next level. very easy to follow and to learn. who knew Italian could be so much fun.
