Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of D-Day: The Battle for Normandy by Antony Beevor, read by Cameron Stewart.

The Normandy landings that took place on D-day involved by far the largest invasion fleet ever known. The scale of the undertaking was simply awesome. What followed them was some of the most cunning and ferocious fighting of the war, at times as savage as anything seen on the Eastern Front.

As casualties mounted, so, too, did the tensions between the principal commanders on both sides. Meanwhile, French civilians caught in the middle of these battlefields or under Allied bombing endured terrible suffering. Even the joys of liberation had their darker side. Antony Beevor's gripping narrative conveys the true experience of war.

Well worth the investment.

I have read a few histories of the Normandy campaign and I have to say that this is the best of the bunch. Devoid of national bias it gives a "Warts and all"account of the fighting and the commanders involved. Interesting and informative in equal measure.

Fantastic subject matter

But appalling accents.
I love the author and the narrator has a great voice, but the accents?
Why?

AAA Throughout

Very detailed, informative and humanising. Very authoritatively performed. I had the barest knowledge of the events in France’s liberation before, and I feel like I understand much more (than I did) now.

Listened to this while going to sleep

Book goes from big picture to trivia quickly.
Not the most interesting. Lots of French geography that is hard to follow. I
