The author clearly has some biases against modern medicine, lifestyle and conveniences that don't mesh with 'the way of the ancients'. I can understand having a preference for what you find valuable in life, but insinuating how big pharma is in cahoots to destroy and enslave us is pretty ridiculous. There was a lot of questionable recommendations in the book, like how modern shoes prevent us from sharing electrons with the earth, so you should spend time walking barefoot. Also a lot of comments about restoring / maximizing your vitality. Its a vague goal that is difficult to track and measure but sounds enticing.
Use some science to back up the claims to make it more credible. I listened to 'The Big Picture' immediately before this one and the two are basically on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of credibility. I also find that most respectable Buddhist-style mindsets are open to having the theories challenged, so that they can either be improved or you can find truth for yourself, but this book feels more like "do as the ancients did because ancient lives were better."
The performance was alright, I appreciate it when the author reads their own material.
It will appeal to a certain demographic who already follow suit with the same train of thought (i.e. if you want to reinforce your pre-existing beliefs, this will be another nod). One redeeming quality - its not a long book.
I could only get through about 3/4 of the book before I had to end it, just couldn't get through it all and take it seriously.
"too much cussing"
loved content. but hated all the cussing. wish I had hard copy for the resources
"Finally relevant and useful guide!"
Relatable and applicable. Love the prospective and the approach. Interesting insight into eastern practices. Thank you Pedram
"Great except for the resources"
Only thing that would make it better is to have the resources!! They should somehow be a part of the audio book
I ready enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to everyone! It covers life in many facets and all very important!
Wonderfully written book, easy to apply principles, potentially life-changing, could benefit every single human being on the planet.
The entire book was so poignant. I like the case studies and the easy modern day hacks that anyone could implement.
He was terrific. Real down to earth surprisingly normal and easy to relate to
It did more than make me laugh and cry it made me change my life.
I have listen to the audiobook twice, need to get around to ordering the hard copy of the book.I've signed up for the emails subscription. I'm looking forward to more form this phenomenal person.
"Believe the hype"
Yes, because it's overflowing with information. I'd like to go back sometime soon in case I missed something.
I liked that the overtly religious / spiritual themes were kept to a minimum, and lifestyle tips dominated.
Mark - the covert alcoholic with social anxiety who can't stop smoking. This story hit home for me, and was somewhat unexpected near the end of the book.
That modern civilization has somewhat robbed a generation of a chance to breathe fresh air. It's not just the packaged foods, overabundance of alcohol, or tiny cubicles that bottles us up... it's all of the above (and much more).
Although this book can be a somewhat depressing read, Pedram closes each chapter with a happy remedy to each character's particular conundrum. Since these characters were based loosely on real-life individuals, it instills a sense of hope (alongside practical tips) to combat some of the bad habits and horrible hands this generation was dealt.
not only does the author swear a little - which I adored- he is real! and offers real changes that can be done easily without denouncing all and moving to the wilderness. this is one I will re listen to and recommend to many
every thing that he states that is wrong with our society is one hundred percent correct. however he spends to much time explaining and focusing on the problem. And not enough time focusing on the solution. I personally now the problem. and try to live in the solution. but it's very difficult. When most of the world is spiritual sick. we need more solution in this book.
"easy to follow"
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It gave relevant and simple strategies for everyday life. Provided a clear understanding of the "monks' way" and how it can be manifested in the modern day.
"one of the best "
one of the best audio books I've listened to period, well read, insightful meaningful, thought provoking. I'm going straight back and listening all over again!
Books talks a lot about what majority already know, however, it uses examples to set us back on track on remind of life essentials. If you are looking to reconnect with yourself and go back to basics generally, this book is the one to help with that.
What a great book - full of amazing suggestions for reconnecting with nature and those around you. I will be listening this again, and also buying the book.
