"Excellent understanding of priesthood"
Those of us who know the prodigious output of Richard Rohr will thoroughly appreciate this very early offering, and realise that right from the beginning this was an exceptional spiritual leader. A young, 35-year-old Rohr is giving a retreat to priests, many of whom are a great deal more senior to him. It is given in the euphoric post-Vatican II period, and gives a thoroughly grounded exploration of what it means to be a priest in every aspect of the vocation. That doesn't mean it is only of value to priests. Everyone can benefit from his insights, and the listener is grateful for five-minute tracks, because often one goes back to the beginning of a track to make sure one really has grasped the point he was making.
Perhaps the mature Rohr with his breadth of vision and inclusive outlook would be a little embarrassed at the section near the end on "Why I am glad I am Catholic," in which protestants come off rather second best, but then, we are all allowed to be young, and this set of talks was given to a group of catholic prists in the 70's.
Even given the occasional datedness of it, and the speaker's youth, this is still a very, very worthwhile book, and one which I am going to go back to over and over.
