It is estimated that more than 20 million Americans have practiced some form of yoga, yet almost none of them have heard of yoga's early teachers or their insights. While we are familiar with yoga's physical benefits, the original purpose of yoga as a path to inner freedom and enlightenment is embodied by only a few students in the West. Handed down to us throughout the past 5,000 years, the mental and spiritual disciplines of this complete philosophy for living are in danger of vanishing forever. Now yoga scholar Georg Feuerstein immerses you in The Lost Teachings of Yoga, the first comprehensive audio curriculum about yoga's original spiritual wisdom and practices. A leading scholar and practitioner of yoga in the West for more than 30 years, Feuerstein introduces you to the wonders beyond yoga's postures and breathing techniques, and points the way to the inner strength and mental peace that is yoga's first objective. Taught by Feuerstein himself, this full 12-session, seven-hour course reveals the true history of yoga, the gifted masters who brought it to the West, its many branches and the rich fruit they yield, yoga's virtues and disciplines that flower into enlightenment, subtle anatomy and the energy of prana or life force, the origins of asanas, and much more. Georg Feuerstein has said that today in the West, we need yoga more than ever. Not simply because we want to develop strong, flexible bodies, but because yoga's vast spiritual heritage can help us uncover the deeper purpose of life. Discover for yourself yoga's ultimate achievement and your foundation for a more effective daily practice with The Lost Teachings of Yoga.

An excellent explanation of "yoga" or should I say the mystical traditions of this religion !
"Great insightful book"
I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about the lost arts of yoga. Definitely going to look Into more books this author wrote
This book gives good insights to yoga philosophy and practice. I listened to audio book while driving and plan to listen it again.
This is a good book for getting under the superficial skin of western yoga. Good analogies. I don't much care for integration of western style psychology (addiction) in terms of yoga for treatment, because I feel Eastern philosophy should be viewed from an Eastern context and not integrated. But, overall, very masterful and scholarly.
"Thank you Georg for writing this book."
I am still on the first chapter but so thrilled to find such a real, authentic book that finally reveals the truth and mystery about Yoga, that I had to share my excitement.... if you are ready to really understand the spiritual side of Yoga, not the typical, superficial, western version, this is the book!
"Superior insight to the teachings of Vedic Wisdom"
Non-fiction. Commentaries of how Yoga's Wisdom fits into a western's life.
It opened my Heart and my soul.
I listened to this over 5 times. Once just to take notes to have for reference.
"An excellent overview description of the depth teachings of yoga"
Georg Feurstein distills into a nicely complete and compelling overview of the depth teachings of the yoga as passed down from yoga traditions from India. His voice and format is expressive of a yogis equanimity and purpose in the love of the rich tools yoga offers to humanity for anyone wishing to practice the yogic path. I believe most who have an attraction to yoga and some sense of conscious awakening will be inspired to practice deeper toward greater awakening. At least that's been my experience here with this work. I especially enjoyed his words on Tantric Yoga.
This book is very thorough in its explanation of the practices of yoga! It's inspiring!!!!
Very Insightful and thorough!
Well spoken with correct enunciation.
All of it!
If you haven't a background in the spiritual aspect of yoga or lack spiritual terminology and/or understand in eastern religion... its density may intimidate you - although, I would suggest, to keep an open mind and don't allow it to dissuade you from listening to this wonderful, insightful audio book! It is truly life changing.
""Back to Basics""
My mother was a yoga teacher, and often stressed, "back to basics", which is exactly where Georg Feuerstein's, "The Lost Teachings of Yoga" takes us, back to the basics. Back to the origins and essence of classical yogic philosophy. Mr Feuerstein does so in such a direct and clear manner, it made my heart sing with inspiration. A very knowledgeable and wise yogi indeed. This gem of a tome is for both those practising modern hatha yoga, and wanting more, and serious truth seekers alike.
There is an energy when hearing the words from the author's own mouth...very different from simply reading the words on a page.
"It was good."
Filled with just the right amount of gems. I love how it spoke about the light and rainbow body.
"Lost and found!"
A great overview of the yogic path. It lays out the goals of yoga and the various schools and practices. An excellent introduction for newcomers and a good review for yogis who are well on the way.
A wonderful piece of work from Geog Feuerstein. Namaste . Reccomended for anyone on the conscious path of self discovery through yoga. Namaste*****
