Story
Most screenwriting books tend to focus on story structure, scene writing, navigating the business, and other parts of the craft that come after the initial choice of the central concept for a story. Multiple Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning writer/producer Erik Bork (HBO’s Band of Brothers) takes a different approach. His experience in the industry and as a screenwriting professor and coach have led him to recognize that it's the selection of the initial idea that is the most important part of the process - with the most impact on the project's chance of success.

Story
Conflict is essential to story - regardless of genre. The friction between what a character wants and the lengths they will go to reach that goal is what pulls readers through your book. Great conflict is what leaves readers cheering (or crying) at the end of a story. Using humour and her deep knowledge of human behaviour, counsellor and award-winning author Eileen Cook will guide you through the causes of conflict, the differences between internal and external conflict, and show you how conflict resolution techniques can be turned upside down to ramp up the tension in your book.

Publisher's Summary
Writing situation comedies isn't really that hard. So much of what you need to know is already defined for you. You know that your script needs to be a certain short length, with a certain small number of characters. You know that your choice of scenes is limited to your show's standing sets and maybe one or two swing sets or outside locations. You know how your characters behave and how they're funny, either because you invented them or because you're writing for a show where these things are already well established. Sitcom is easy and sitcom is fun. Sitcom is the gateway drug to longer forms of writing. It's a pretty good buzz and a pretty good ride, a great way to kill an afternoon, or even six months.
And now, thanks to comedy writing guru John Vorhaus (author of The Comic Toolbox: How to Be Funny Even If You're Not), writing situation comedy is easier than ever. In The Little Book of Sitcom, you'll find a whole trove of tools, tricks, and problem-solving techniques that you can use - now, today - to be the sitcom writer of your wildest dreams. Ready to write? Ready to have fun? The Little Book of Sitcom is the big little book for you.

Excellent breakdown of the sitcom writing proces!!
I'm a beginner. Very happy with this book. The writer clearly has a deep understanding of his craft and breaks things down in an easy to digest way. There's plenty of info packed into 2hrs with little or no fat to trim. Everything is made very nice and clear and I will continue to work with it. Nicely narrated by the author too. Highly recommended!!
