Publisher's Summary

A no-holds-barred, tough-love guide to dealing with your emotional issues and changing your mindset in order to finally lose weight, from the creator of weight loss reality TV, including The Biggest Loser and Extreme Weight Loss.

Every fat person (yes, "fat person" - there'll be no sugarcoating here) knows that you need to move more and eat less to shed pounds. Not exactly rocket science. Yet that simple formula doesn't get to the root of what makes someone top out at 500 pounds, or sometimes just carry an extra 50. The missing link in transformative weight loss is mental and emotional fortitude. Mining the same problem-solving and motivational skills JD Roth has used so successfully with reality show contestants, The Big Fat Truth gets listeners to address the real reasons they're overweight (and nobody gets away with saying it's because they love food).

With his combination of enthusiasm, empathy, no-holds-barred style, and master story-telling abilities, JD helps them unearth and tackle the unresolved issues they've buried under the French fries and chocolate chip cookie.

Nothing to be Gained (No Pun Intended)

Would you try another book written by J. D. Roth or narrated by J. D. Roth?

No.

What didn’t you like about J. D. Roth’s performance?

He speaks with a flavour of distinctly macho American enthusiasm which is not in and of itself a bad thing, it's just that the content didn't resonate with me.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment - I can't help but feel there was nothing to be gained from this listening experience. I didn't get anything out of it.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for insight into weight-loss I would recommend books that are first-hand accounts from people that have lived the experience. This book is more secondary observations and opinions.

JD Roth knows his stuff

Loved JD Roths style, and as a training Nutritionist, I definitely know he is on point by advocating for a Whole-Food Plant based diet, but also pointing out that a shift in psychology is the most important thing. JD Roth dives into great stories that got me back on the rebounder, and even though I've listened to a lot of personal development material, I found a lot of great insights that have been unique to JD Roths material. I'm not fat, but I have certainly realised that even though I am fit and healthy, that I can still up my game where I've drifted off into auto-pilot. Definitely worth listening to if you understand the true freedom that discipline in life brings. Not being a Victim, but taking full responsibility for your own life.
