A no-holds-barred, tough-love guide to dealing with your emotional issues and changing your mindset in order to finally lose weight, from the creator of weight loss reality TV, including The Biggest Loser and Extreme Weight Loss.
Every fat person (yes, "fat person" - there'll be no sugarcoating here) knows that you need to move more and eat less to shed pounds. Not exactly rocket science. Yet that simple formula doesn't get to the root of what makes someone top out at 500 pounds, or sometimes just carry an extra 50. The missing link in transformative weight loss is mental and emotional fortitude. Mining the same problem-solving and motivational skills JD Roth has used so successfully with reality show contestants, The Big Fat Truth gets listeners to address the real reasons they're overweight (and nobody gets away with saying it's because they love food).
With his combination of enthusiasm, empathy, no-holds-barred style, and master story-telling abilities, JD helps them unearth and tackle the unresolved issues they've buried under the French fries and chocolate chip cookie.

Rottweilers, shopping, wood chopping and tupperware. Driving, singing, googling and baking. These are a few of my favourite things.
He speaks with a flavour of distinctly macho American enthusiasm which is not in and of itself a bad thing, it's just that the content didn't resonate with me.
Disappointment - I can't help but feel there was nothing to be gained from this listening experience. I didn't get anything out of it.
If you're looking for insight into weight-loss I would recommend books that are first-hand accounts from people that have lived the experience. This book is more secondary observations and opinions.
I loved this book. It was so inspirational. I finished in one day. Can't wait to read it again.
I love that this book doesn't sugar coat anything. It's straight up about getting to the root of the issue. I plan to listen again and again.
"Motivating but lacking content"
I was expecting a heckuva lot more facts about how to lose weight, but was given generalizations, albeit by a positive narrator!
"Not for chubby people trying to lose a few pound"
This book is geared for morbidly obese individuals and I couldn't relate entirely because I am not obese. I was hoping that this book would motivate me to lose that few pounds that's been lingering but it didn't. There were however good quotes related to mental aspect of why diet fails and how that can be improved, which I can reference back to going forward.
Also I believe in ketogenic diet and JD talking about how fat is bad made my teeth cringe.
"Changed My Life"
As a guys 5ft 7 weighing 17.7stone, I've struggled with my weight my whole life. This book has been the first real thing that's actually motivated me to do something about it. I've listened to it once and now the second time round I'm applying the principles. Big thanks to the writer and the team behind it.
