Our willpower is limited, yet we rely on it every day to get our tasks done. Even if we build willpower slowly over time, it's never enough to reach all of our goals. The solution lies in habit creation, the method by which we transform hard tasks into easy ones, making them automatic and independent of our will power. Each of us has millions of habits, in how we do our work, interact with others, perceive the world, and think about ourselves. Left unexamined, these habits are just as likely to hinder our progress as they are to push it along. Without a deliberate system for building habits, we become our own worst enemy.
Superhuman by Habit examines habit building in depth. It covers the principles and philosophies of habit building, as well as the practical nuts and bolts implementing those habits. The second half of the audiobook is dedicated to specific habits in every major area of life, covering the pros and cons of each, the path to implementing them, and specific notes about each one.

I've read more books than I care to count on the subject of building habits - this is the only one I'll be passing on to friends from now on. Super succinct, loaded with gold, written by somebody you can tell has really gone deep and invested an extraordinary amount of hard work into his personal transformation. The author reads the title, delivery is a little bland and there are some mistakes that have not been edited out (quite comical), but none of that detracts from the content - this is the first review I've left of over 150 audio books from audible - I'm not saying it's the best of them all, but I felt inspired to support it!
le rythme de lecture est un peu trop rapide et il a fallu que je répète plusieurs fois certains passages pour vraiment en intégrer le principe le livre est intéressant et donne beaucoup de clés pour changer ses habitudes.
"Reads like a self-published e-book"
I really liked the concepts in this book, and it's nice that the author spells out exact examples of how to implement them. I can also appreciate that the author is narrating his own book, and that is the only reason I gave the performance 2 stars instead of 1. Authors are not the same as performers, and so when an author narrates their own book, mistakes are more acceptable because they are really writers, not narrators. Bad narration can be made up for by good editing, but this book doesn't have good editing. At one point you can even hear the narrator ask himself how to say a word. This audio book is cheap and it's obvious when you are listening to it. But I guess you get what you pay for.
"A good addition to your habit formation library"
I've spent several months finding, reading/listening to every book I can find about habit formation. Some are rich with science to back up why habit formation is at the core of who we are. Others, like this one, are practical, down-to-earth and easy to digest.
"Some Gold Nuggets But Very Distracting"
Had some good ideas but might be better to read the actual book as the performance was distracting.
There were weird cuts where the author/narrator messed up and didn't even finish the sentence. He also wasn't the best performer. It sounded like it was read in the guys basement with not great equipment (which I kinda suspect is the cast). For me it was quite distracting in trying to soak up the info.
First off, great book with a good message. I recommend others to have a listen.
Although, it's hard to take his claims on work productivity seriously when he didn't take the time to edit out errors in the reading of the audiobook.
There are good tips and advice on creating good habits but the content is insufficient to fill a book. There is a lot of repetition and fluff to lengthen the book.
An unexpectedly fresh take on habit/time management & getting things done. Strongly recommend. Will keep listening to it.
In general I like what Tynan says on his blog, and I also think that this book has some gold nuggets after reading the notes blogger James Clear took on this book.
However, Clear's notes is where I should have stopped, in hindsight. They contain 99% of the useful information in this book.
I was interested in hearing about the list of habit ideas and what to expect from them, but that section felt rushed and the information was obvious. Also some of the examples Tynan used were a bit ridiculous. E.g. as part of the habit to develop a positive attitude, he suggested "if your dog dies, think about how now you don't have to buy food for it." Really, Tynan? Should have thought of a better example. C'mon man. As a dog lover I can tell you when someone's dog dies that's the last thing on our minds.
The production value of the audio wasn't completely terrible but it wasn't good. Sometimes Tynan messed up and instead of fixing it he just left it in, and can even be heard criticizing himself at one point. It was kinda funny, and perhaps that's why he left it in, but it just seems very amateur. But to be fair this is a value priced book so I guess it is what it is.
So overall the book has some good ideas and habits are very important, but you can find this information better elsewhere, such as the blog I mentioned earlier.
It really gives new insights and tips! It's not at all the typical collection of obvious things. Thanks Tynan!
I enjoyed this book very much! Makes me feel in the right path, thanks for that!
"great audio book"
Thers a lot of helpful habit building tips i would have liked it more if it was longer
"Definitely worth the read!!"
Great read if you want to fully understand the importance of habits and exactly why and how they can make us excel.. I find I am looking forward to implementing some of his habit suggestions now!
Does exactly what it says on the tin! Since applying this I've been able to exercise every day, and wake up at 4:30am and go straight for a walk. Now those two habits are almost automatic I'm adding meditation into the mix, Tynan's method makes it effortless! Thank you : )
