My opinion is rhat the book contains valuable real life applicable advises.
Seems that self esteem is flexible reflecting our life journey ups & downs not set in stone. The author teach us how to use different tools to develop kinder and more accepting attetude towards our self.
i may listen the book few more times l.
This book digs deep to the root causes of low self esteem and proposes very practical solutions. I am already seeing remarkable improvement in myself. I strongly recommend this book to anyone struggling with low self esteem.
The message is clear and it helps understanding the roots of our problems it is also encouraging. I recommend it
For me, i found this very very boring. Slow paced and unhelpful. I had heard all the advice a million times before. Contained nothing new. Maybe int he 80's this was an exciting and helpful book but times have moved on. Sorry, not for me.
"Very poor. Very patronising."
No help at all. I found this to be very patronising and full of nonsense and very cliched advice. I barely took anything from it, despite struggling the whole way thru it!
"Series of very accessible talks"
As a trainee counsellor I thought this was an excellent series of talks - both for myself as a counsellor and to recommend to clients who might be grappling with the issue of low self esteem.
The author [UK accent] reads through a series of talks which explain why low self esteem arises and goes through a series of steps that you can take to understand and overcome low self esteem.
She uses a CBT [cognitive behavioural therapy] approach which she explains very clearly. The idea being that you use the 'exercises' in the talks to understand what is going on for you with the result that you can improve your self esteem and be happier as a result.
I've read a few of the 'Overcoming' series of book and they are all very accessible, which is probably why they are part of the UK's 'books on prescription' scheme - a self help scheme for people with mild to moderate mental health issues.
It's too long to listen to all in one sitting, there's a lot to take in. I listened to it all the way through twice [over the course of several dog walks!] and I'm intending to listen to it again with a notebook to hand to make notes on each talk, the exercises etc.
Would very much recommend this if you feel you have a low self esteem and want to do something about it.
"A real eye opener"
Revealing, simple, effective
A friend to turn your life around
This is a self help book. A really effective look at what causes low self esteem and some very simple solutions to over coming it. The author/narrator is so very empathetic too in her approach, she really draws you in.
"Really Important Work"
Melanie Fennell really strikes the nail right on the head with regards to the complex problem of low self esteem. The term "low self esteem" is often bandied about as if it were something that people "should just get over" . This author realises how profoundly it can be engrained in people and how vicious it can be. Useful insights such as knowing one's "bottom line" and addressing one's "rules for living" are explained in a very clear and extremely helpful manner. This is not a shallow "pop psychology" book. It is a really powerful and useful therapeutic guide. Very worthwhile and highly recommended.
I would recommend this book as its so easy to listen to and very helpful.
I have been using this alongside the book of the same name.
I have listened to this book slowly and have worked on the items that the Author asks you to. Very helpful.
