If you struggle with binge eating, emotional eating, stress eating, or if you repeatedly manage to lose weight only to gain it all back, you may be approaching things with the wrong mindset.
Most contemporary thought on overeating and bingeing focuses on healing and self-love. But people who've overcome food and weight issues often report it was more like capturing and caging a rabid dog than learning to love their inner child.
Open the cage even an inch - or show that dog an ounce of fear - and it'll quickly burst out to shred your healthy eating plans, undoing all your progress in a heartbeat.
From his perspective as a formerly food-obsessed psychologist - and previous consultant to major food manufacturers - Dr. Livingston shares specific techniques for isolating and permanently dis-empowering your "fat-thinking self". He reveals much of his own personal journey in the process.
If, despite your best intentions, you find yourself in one or more of the following situations, then this book is for you.

This is the first Binge book that I bought and I could completely relate to the inner pig! I've bought many other diet books in my life but this was the first one that gave me a lightbulb moment about how I could exercise control and get off the yo-yo dieting, binge, starvation hell.
The second book I bought after this one was Brain Over Binge. There are a lot of similarities in both books but I got more of the why we binge and many other insights about our urges from Brain over Binge.
I was initially annoyed about being directed to his site in every chapter to get more info or download things. I buy audio books because I don't have a lot of time, but, when I did get the chance to visit his neverbingeagain site and get his Food Plan template I was really pleased that he has the site as well as the book. It does help to listen to interviews and other audio tips about our inner pig and pig squeal.
I'm really glad I bought this audiobook. I love his food plan idea because with every diet I have ever tried, there is always something that isn't allowed that I really enjoy eating...so to make my own lifelong food plan makes total sense to me. I'm not sure I want to put anything in the Never Eat Again category but maybe I'll change my mind about this if I find a particular food giving me more problems that I expected.
I preferred Brain Over Binge by Kathryn Hensen but in all honesty I got something from both books so will definitely listen to them both again...a sign of a great buy!
I have also just downloaded and am enjoying W.A.I.T. loss by Wendy Hendry (recommended by Glenn Livingston).
"Eh kinda not helpful"
it was a struggle to keep reading. it wasn't exactly helpful for me at all.
"Great Content, Distracting Naration"
Informative, easy, fun and practical with no technical jargon. I'm no longer concerned that I may ever binge again. The method really works.
Understanding that no matter what you choose, to binge or not to binge, either way you will deny yourself something.
The biggest distraction I had was trying to figure out if he narrator was an incredible software program or a person who practiced speaking like a computer - instead of just enjoying the content. My experience of this audio book was that a computer program was reading to me (even though it was a person) and it was missing human touch, intonation, breaths, pauses, etc. Roger Baker may be very skilled in speaking like a computer but I prefer a narrator that sounds human.
The very real non-food examples, like the wedding vow metaphor, are amusing and make the points hit home. The author even explains why he picked them to illustrate his point.
This method is so much easier than will power or guilt or anything else I've tried. It's too early to quantify results but at least I have no desire to eat garbage ever again. The book isn't about how thin people (who are not you) think and definitely doesn't contain a survey of what thin people think. Rather it covers how to not be dominated by (and ultimately change) your own thoughts.
"Good advice, poor delivery"
The narrator's voice reminds me of a late night infomercial. I think I would have rather read this myself than to listen to someone reading it.
"Unusual approach/didn't relate to target audience"
Definitely listen to a sample. This author has a very unusual approach and calls the overeating behavior the "Beast". This book was written for obese people and perhaps would benefit some, but I had been looking for strategies to learn to eat to fullness (and not beyond) and to avoid overeating food for stress reduction. I did not relate to the target audience as the book is very specific to binge eaters with severe struggles and obesity.
"Helpful and relatable."
This book was a great read and I plan on rereading it again and again.
It has a lot of great information that I've been looking for for decades.
Lots of "aha" moments throughout and great suggestions.
Definite must read for people with compulsive eating habits.
"Worth checking out"
Really interesting. I thought I wouldn't find it helpful but I was pleasantly surprised. May not be for everyone but I would recommend giving it a chance. the narrator was not an issue for me.
The book is very straightforward and the concept may be helpful for some. However, I couldn't stand the narrator's voice. When he presents simple concepts or reads sarcastic lines he sounds insulting, but the worst part is his rapid, constant switching from high to low pitches. He sounds like he's practicing to be a British newscaster. Annoying and distracting.
the most mature and concrete approach to "caging the beast" that has had so much control over my life!
the PIG visual is just the thing that puts ME back in control. thank you Glenn for this - no diet or eating plan has ever helped me with this part of the problem. i am grateful.
A irreverent and eye opening romp. No unnecessary drivel condoning one diet or another just all sheer technique. Like nothing I've ever read before. How-to that actually works!
"Amazing book very highly recommended"
Brilliant book, I was inspired right from the word go and started implementing the ideas straight away. I already feel different, much more confident around food and feel sure this is going to help me enormously.
"Incredible - a must listen"
This audio is incredible, I've listened to it once and can't claim I've been cured overnight but it has certainly influenced my mindset at an unconscious level. I have still got some progress to make but I have no desire to have a full blown binge as I have been continuously doing over the past few months leading to absolute desperation - hence downloading this rather blunt title! Initially I found the narrator lacked animation but it must have something to do with science and the particular tone that 'sinks in' with ease!
Anyway, I totally recommend, especially to anyone who feels they could never break away from this horrendous cycle of a life consumed by food!
"This book is spot on!"
Yes - I like the humour and intonation you get with the audio version that might be missed in the print version.
The humourous deilvery
It made me laugh, gasp and change my behaviour
Can't recommend this enough to people who feel their eating gets out of control at times or a lot.
Resonated immediately and I feel really empowered by it.
Practical, funny, sensible and easy to follow with loads of free support and MP3s etc.
