Publisher's Summary

Sorting through a lifetime's worth of accumulated possessions can be a daunting and stressful process that millions of Americans confront every year. The need to downsize often arises at a momentous life change, whether you're an empty nester or retiree selling your family home, a newlywed blending your households, or cleaning out your parents' property after they've moved into assisted living or passed away.

Decluttering guru Peter Walsh knows the difficulty of downsizing firsthand. Along with six of his siblings, he went through the process of downsizing his family home and dividing his late parents' possessions. He realized that making these decisions about mementos and heirlooms creates strong emotions and sometimes sibling rivalries. After this experience, he downsized his own home. Peter doesn't see downsizing as a difficult chore - rather, it's a freeing, rejuvenating process. Now, in Let It Go, you'll access Peter's many tips and practical takeaways, such as how to:

  • Understand the emotional challenges that accompany downsizing
  • Create strategies for working with your spouse, adult kids, or siblings without drama
  • Identify the objects that will bring you real happiness

Difficult to listen to voice other than the author

I couldn't listen past the 1st chapter. Such a shame. I quickly bought the book presuming it was read by Peter ( other titles have been read by him) It was weird to hear someone else read his words. I guess because I love to watch Peter change people's lives on my tv screen, you make a connection with him and his huge heart to genuinely want to help people, you want him reading in your ear, encouraging you, giving you confidence that you can do it. I guess I wanted to feel he was personally encouraging me. Without Peter's voice it's just another impersonal self help book.
Would definitely purchase it again if he read it.

Best decluttering book and downsizing resource

I read a lot of books about downsizing, and this is by far the best of the decluttering books and downsizing resources available. It is nicely narrated (pleasant voice, great intonation) and has very practical advice and some interesting insights into how we let our 'stuff' (belongings) crowd out our lives and living spaces, and how to declutter with more ease and less stress. HIGHLY recommend, especially for anyone who is needing to move, downsize, or clean out their space or parent's space, and/or who has siblings squabbling over items in the family home. Bravo to Peter Walsh.

Downsizing is the new way to live!

Peter Walsh does it again. We love this book as we are currently downsizing. This is great if you can read it or listen before you downsize but if you are like us and had to move quickly and well we had 3-4 houses into one and no kids in one move! It is fabulous. Thanks, Peter, I am getting there and life is feeling much lighter!
